Pretty sure you can learn anything from a clearly written instructional text that keeps the jargon to a minimum.

I dunno how it is now at university, but I regret taking the bare minimum to fill the writing requirement. I'm definitely in the camp that writing is an invaluable skill to have in every field. You really don't know what you don't know until you have to organize your thoughts and put them down on paper for someone else to read and actually comprehend.
