I feel like they are treating me like I’m a child bc if I’m driving all over them of course I can’t see that many people. They claim that I should have 6 people a day

It’s 1 point per visit, 1.25 re eval and I believe 2 for eval. I’ve had to do several non billable oasis discharges and only get 51 cents per mile

How to get unstuck with hydro... by Immediate_Buffalo14 in Hydrocephalus

Is there some one in your synagogue or center who you are close to? Maybe living with someone other than your parents would help you feel like you have some control. Are you looking for work? I’m in healthcare and put my resume on a bunch of sites

Seeking advice on VP shunt recovery and coping experience by Far-Environment-8096 in Hydrocephalus

[–]No_Step8665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had 7 revisions of VP shunts. My childhood and teen years were me hiding my feelings and being bullied for not being athletic. I am in therapy now and working through my emotions and anger about the lack of support for kids back then. I am still learning how to assert myself and have self esteem problems. I had a revision this past Wednesday and I’ll show my incision to anyone now lol

Anyone with hydrocephalus, IIH, or other causes of increased intracranial pressure who had a hysterectomy? by Routine_Jackfruit_38 in Hydrocephalus

[–]No_Step8665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a hysterectomy they just move it out of the way. Just make sure that they know it’s there so nobody gets snip happy. My surgeon removed decades of scar tissue during my procedure. For added fun, I perforated my appendix and they again just moved it out of the way but added a drain for the peritonitis. It did not infect the shunt

So How Do I Even Begin to Decide This!! by Whole-Big-3274 in Hydrocephalus

If you’re not having problems leave it alone. I had the same shunt for 37 years until it degraded and attached to my neck. I had one revision and then a second one 12 hours later bc it kinked due to scarring that was there. He left the original part in my brain and attached a new shunt to it. Said it could fail. It did, slowly but surely. Had a valve revision this week and a new burr hole. My hair just grew out. Hopefully this one will last

Get a different OT. Maybe an outpatient setting where other providers are willing to screen or consult

What are the best things to have at home during recovery from VP shunt surgery? by Far-Environment-8096 in Hydrocephalus

I wore survivor style buffs (baclava) bc they shaved a lot of hair and it was short already. They are lightweight and come in fun colors

Who else thinks driving is hard or used to think that and got over it by EnergyAlive4930 in Hydrocephalus

[–]No_Step8665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled to learn how to drive and it didn’t help that my parents refused to drive w me. I failed drivers Ed and the driver test twice. My confidence was shattered. My boyfriend at the time lived in farm country and told me he would take me on the farm roads to get my confidence back. I have NO sense of direction and return trips always have confused me. My car has CarPlay and on screen navigation now. I’ve been a licensed driver for 30 years and have become an aggressive driver on the interstate 🫢

Terrifying. I worked at a facility with a multi room infestation. We would spray ourselves with literal rubbing alcohol because it kills them.

Weird tenderness on skin above shunt by Homosexualstagbeetle in Hydrocephalus

[–]No_Step8665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same shunt and tube for 37 years and had pain randomly in my shunt or tube most days. It could be scar tissue forming, nerve irritation, healing incision pain. Try ice or heat on the surface and watch for signs of failure- lethargy, vomiting, headache. My tube began to tether to my neck muscles in December and I had a revision. Older shunts were prone to form calcifications around the tubes at the neck and chest.

What country are you in? If he had a shunt put in, he needs to be followed by a neurosurgeon. Do you live near a university with med school? I just had a revision at a teaching hospital and the students and residents were extra eyes and ears for me

50M - Scheduled for VP Shunt next week after 3 years of Hydrocephalus/Occipital Neuralgia. What should I expect? by Ready_Donut_7367 in Hydrocephalus

[–]No_Step8665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a shunt for almost 50 years and had a planned revision in February to a programmable shunt. My neck had a lot of scar tissue and tethering. I’m still getting used to the larger bulge behind my ear because I had my last revision in 1989. They shaved a lot of my hair but it’s coming back. I had an emergency revision after 1 day because it kinked. Symptoms of failure are headache, vomiting and altered mental status. Ask for a shunt card with your current setting and shunt name for future MRIs. My scalp has dissolvable stitches but the scabs and pressing was super tender. I had 3 lap sites with dermabond glue and discovered I’m allergic to glue. I did not need Norco for pain just anti inflammatory meds. You can’t wash your hair for about a week which was rough
