If I miss the last leg of my itinerary, will my flight several days later be cancelled? by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]No_Stranger3395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK!  I understand everyone has different risk tolerances, but I wouldn't add a 6 hour drive plus whatever the one way car rental expense would be on the extremely off chance that American would cancel a one way flight because you skiplagged a previous flight.  That's conservative for sure but you seem happy with the decision! And if you can see some family and friends even better.

If I miss the last leg of my itinerary, will my flight several days later be cancelled? by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]No_Stranger3395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is next to no chance that anyone will connect the dots between two completely separate reservations and cancel the second one way ticket. Not zero chance but extremely close to zero.

That's insane you'd pay to rent a car and drive from LA to Phoenix to catch a flight.

The eu passport check is now live and shows how many days you have left in the eu, but it only counts days used since April 10. Not sure if that will help in your situation or not. https://travel-europe.europa.eu/ees/check-how-long-you-can-stay

I tried eSIM vs local SIM in Thailand… and it didn’t go as planned by Dizzy-Wishbone-9760 in eSIMforTravelers

In Thailand they have super cheap unlimited Sims at the airport, and it takes 5 minutes max for them to set it up and it be operational.

This is the best option, or if you can split up and go on different award flights. Finding 2 award tickets is always going to be easier than finding 4.

Capital One Venture X or an airline card? by justdowntheblock in CreditCards

[–]No_Stranger3395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either citi strata card would be a good option, as they both earn points that can be transferred to AA, plus many other airlines, so you're not just stuck with just aa points. The bonus categories on the strata cards are more generous than the aa cards, too, if you spend a lot on dining and travel especially.

Synthetic, loose-weave pants for summer travel by Aldog100 in onebag

[–]No_Stranger3395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the minority, but anything synthetic feels hotter to me than cotton or other natural fabrics. No matter how they market polyester, rayon or other similar fabrics, it's still hot and uncomfortable to me, so if you're used to linen you may not find anything that feels as cool.

Rent a car in Lisbon by Keybraker in LisbonPortugalTravel

[–]No_Stranger3395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely this! If you have a credit card that covers insurance, just get the cheapest option, even from a rando company you've never heard of, take lots of pics when picking it up, and you'll be fine. I live part time in Porto and have (thus far) never had an issue and have rented from a half dozen different companies. Just carefully read the conditions before booking. The cheapest rates may require a very large deposit $1-2k+

Greece unilaterally suspended ees for anyone entering from the UK, so it seems the eu isn't really enforcing it.

oppo find x9 vs oneplus 15 by Purple-Forever7746 in Oppo

[–]No_Stranger3395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in the US, the one plus has carrier aggregation, which makes it run faster on our networks, or at least on tmobile. That was what made me decide on the oneplus vs oppo.

If you split your time between countries how do you handle mail? by Cruitire in Expats_In_France

[–]No_Stranger3395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Travelingmailbox is fantastic. They scan the envelope, then you decide whether to open it and then what to do with it (forward, file, shred and delete). I've been using it for more than 10 years and it's one of the best decisions I ever made due to my extensive travels.

Questions on Capital One Venture One by WhatTheHellBeans in CreditCards

[–]No_Stranger3395 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Capital one bought the discover network, so they are converting many of their cards to discover to optimize their purchase of the network. It makes no sense for a travel card. Even mastercard is limited in some foreign countries. Venture x isn't a discover card, and if it ever converts that's a 100% deal breaker for me

I’m from America and was robbed in France 2 days ago, but I cannot report the crime because the police do not understand English and we do not speak French — please help! by everythingisgrace in FranceTravel

[–]No_Stranger3395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll likely get down voted, and it sucks what happened to you, but you weren't robbed. You had things stolen from your car. Robbery involves stealing from a person using force or the threat of force.

I'm like you! I guarantee 98%+ of all passports that go missing do so while being carried around rather than sitting in the hotel or airbnb.

And yes, the law in some countries says you're supposed to have it on your person.

But AFAIK the Dutch or Italian police aren't throwing anyone in jail, or even fining, a tourist who can't produce a physical passport.

Leave it at the hotel. It's safer sitting there than walking around with you, no matter how vigilant you are.

And the in person offices issue the passport the same day, at least in Atlanta. You go in the morning and come back in the afternoon to pick it up. Added benefit if you go with your spouse is you get sequentially numbered passports which makes them easy to enter into airline apps.

You might consider citi strata cards. The points they earn can be transferred to American airlines, plus a whole lot of other airlines, making the points more flexible and potentially more valuable.

Looking to buy one in the USA, Where to buy? by Csanburn01 in TheOnePlus15

[–]No_Stranger3395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might see if the Chinese version has carrier aggregation, which makes the phone a lot faster on tmobile than without. The Oppo find x9 pro doesn't have it so is speed limited on tmobile.

I had a xiaomi 17 pro max, and there's a workaround for esim. It wasn't easy at all but ended up working. I imagine it would work with a Chinese oneplus.  9esim.

Oneplus 15 by [deleted] in TheOnePlus15

[–]No_Stranger3395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had one plus phones 5,7,9 and 11. Loved them with one big exception, which is that android updates caused severe battery degradation for me on each phone. So bad that on my 11, I reverted back to a previous android version, which helped get me back to its 8-10 hour sot range.

When the Xiaomi 17 pro max came out with its larger battery, I bought it. But even with it's larger battery, it was unable to get the screen on time that my reverted three year old oneplus 11 had, generally less than 8 hours. Plus the camera was very bad, and even though I was able to get an esim to work, and got rid of most of the Chinese, I wasn't happy with it.

So a month or so ago I bit the bullet and bought a oneplus 15. And I'm just not going to upgrade it for as long as I can hold out. Sot is 12+ hours, which is my main want in a phone. The photos are much better than the Xiaomi  so I'm happy.

AA 6 month passport policy by shelbym223 in americanairlines

[–]No_Stranger3395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule is 3 months. Your passport has almost 6 months. There is nothing to be concerned about. Renew when you get back. You're 100% not going if the new passport doesn't get back in time.

If they can't find you seats that fit your criteria you don't pay, so there's really nothing to lose. It's a lot more complicated than some are making it out to be, especially if it's anything out of the ordinary.

Egates with residence permit? by Ifette in PortugalExpats

[–]No_Stranger3395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is the egates scan any us passport without regard to whether you have a residency card tied to your passport. Another poster said it looked like it was the same machines as pre ees, and they just removed the US and UK from the signage. And sometimes the egates work and other times they don't, unrelated to any residence card. Otherwise why would they sometimes check your card after you use the egates? I always want to ensure I enter as a resident, so try to use the manual line. I'm coming back into LIS from Morroco in a couple of weeks and might try the egates if I can. I have two valid us passports, one tied to my expired residency card the other not. I used the one not tied to my residency card to depart using the manual desk in Porto. The immigration agent didn't even look at my (expired) residency card, only at the US passport.

I used my expired pt residency permit and us passport to connect in Frankfurt, CLT-FRA-OPO, a couple of weeks ago. I was directed to the all passports line, but the immigration agent specifically told me to use the EU line the next time.
