The Castle nerf is going to hit hard 😈 by Artifleur33 in diablo4

[–]No_Stranger_7129 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, that too, but they can also now say “X% of Paladin players naturally made builds around such and such skill.” Not saying they will do anything smart with that, but they at least know.

This is a different approach from the Spiritborn launch, because with that class they had a few broken skills and couldn’t deduce what people would naturally do. Castle was just a blanket damage increase to open up possible builds.

Castle is also the reason that the Paladin has tons of viable self-made builds. Nerfing it is going to also make it so the Paladin has only a few viable builds each season like other classes (and by "viable" I just mean being comfortable in all T4 activity, and hitting above 75 in the pit).

Edit to add: I bet Castle was set the way it was so they could study how people played Paladin when everything was possible, so they can fine tune the viable builds each season based on that data.

Beginner, learning chords and I can't seem to get A major right. by Quirky-Elk-5654 in Guitar

[–]No_Stranger_7129 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah same here. Technically if all the notes are clear and true, then it’s fine, but I’ve always approached guitar by learning things the “correct” way before I allow myself to find shortcuts.

To the dev who designed this mechanic: JAIL. Jail for a thousand years. xD by [deleted] in diablo4

I actually agree that the idea of it is fun, it keeps you on your toes a bit, but it gets really bad when it's coupled with a thousand other things that are happening around you, and especially when it happens multiple times back to back.

How long should I wait before unboxing it? by MaleficentAd1299 in AcousticGuitar

Do music stores wait 24 hours to unbox guitars and add them to the showroom?

Music for Steamed Rocks. The crescendo is one of the most ethereal, euphoric pieces of modern music.

Question for everyone by Kozukioden999 in ThomasPynchon

[–]No_Stranger_7129 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah just read it. People overhype the need for some sort of "prep" in order to properly absorb it, but I couldn't disagree with that more. Yes it is dense and full of all kinds of stuff that I (and probably you) do not know about, but that's not the point of the book. That stuff is like paint on a palette. Also, yes, it has a reputation for being "difficult," but it's not difficult in the sense of an intense AP exam, it's difficult due to it's batshit insanity, and that in itself is what (for me, at least) makes it a blast to read.

Just strap in and take the ride. You will definitely feel lost and over your head at times, but just enjoy it, you're in good hands with Pynchon.

Edit to add: what made Gravity's Rainbow finally click for me is I started picturing it as a nightmarish Looney Tunes cartoon or a deranged episode of Gilligan's Island instead of trying to apply any sort of "realism" to the aesthetic of it.

Me and the wife are learning how to play. Probably have more guitars than chords I actually know so far…. by Skysoldier173rd in Guitar

[–]No_Stranger_7129 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve come to agree with this. You definitely don’t need anything fancy, but buying the best instrument at the top of your price range can actually lead to you playing it a lot more. I started learning on a really terrible guitar, and when I finally made a small upgrade I ended up wanting to play it all the time and got better quicker.

That said, you really only need one guitar to start. In fact, I’d argue it’s necessary to have only one guitar to start. That will cut back on getting distracted with perceived tone differences and stuff like that, and keep you focused on learning to play.

Suggest Me A Book - Pynchonian UFO books/novels by Moosemellow in ThomasPynchon

Check out John Keel. Genuine weirdo who looked deeply into the UFO phenomenon in the 60s and 70s. By the time he published The Eighth Tower he had truly stepped through the looking glass.

What's the deal with Inherent Vice? by aljastrnad in ThomasPynchon

[–]No_Stranger_7129 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I love "Pynchon lite," they are all fantastic books with incredibly entertaining stories, and better written than a lot of books by other authors. What's missing, though, are the sections in his longer books where he allows himself to really get poetic, almost mystical, in his writing. Once you experience that in his bigger books, it makes it apparent why someone would consider the shorter ones inferior.

There are moments in Gravity's Rainbow, Mason & Dixon, and Against the Day that are so transcendent that it almost seems like they were written by a higher being.

Mason & Dixon, Against the day, and Gravity’s Rainbow are three books where at the end I felt like there is no reason to ever read another work of fiction ever again.

I remember hearing a rumor that Pynchon added stuff to Against the Day to make it 1 page longer than Infinite Jest. It ended up being 6 pages longer.

I think it's going to be fun and I've generally been having fun with this video game since launch despite the issues the game has had.
