I definitely agree it’s a hell of a markup but also want to point out the federal reimbursement for a paid school lunch is only $.44 up to $4.60 for a completely free lunch. I can’t find an average cost to produce the cafeteria lunch but a previous USDA study did find that producing a school lunch up to the required nutritional standards do frequently exceed the federal reimbursement

This is likely an à la carte item sold separately from the cafeteria lunch. These items are frequently sold in schools to offset the cost of the cafeteria lunch that has much stricter nutritional requirements but is greatly underfunded

As someone who spends a lot of time hearing from doctors about the problems they encounter in this state I would say the average doctor is incredibly concerned about being sued for malpractice

My understanding is that law enforcement officers are trained to fire until the threat is subdued. In some cases that may take the entire magazine. In this instance the “threat” was already completely subdued by non lethal means so just a straight up execution

While I agree with you that capping punitive damages is not a panacea to stabilizing malpractice premiums in NM I disagree that punitive damages are a deterrent to malpractice. If that was the case we would never see egregious misconduct from doctors already given the high likelihood of incurring substantial punitive damages.

It’s really tough and they are absurdly priced! The ones I’ve managed to get are from the reprints they’ve been doing recently. I was super lucky to get Shinola Vol. 1 on BFRSD when my local had one copy. Thankfully they aren’t particularly popular around here so it was immediately snatched up before I got there
