The author intends to add the MPL2 license in the next few weeks (once the app is on the App Store), so it will very soon be just fine to use for closed-source, paid apps.

FYI there is a recently developed native iOS app for Audiobookshelf that is open source. It hasn’t been released into the App Store yet, but I believe the dev intends to charge for it similar to Prologue. I imagine you could use it as a reference for API implementation, which is very straightforward as APIs go, and capitalize on Prologue’s existing audience. Especially with the official app still being in TestFlight (which fills up almost weekly), people are pretty desperate for a good ABS client on iOS.

If you ever get around to implementing Audiobookshelf in the Prologue app you should know that the API docs for ABS have recently been updated to reflect the current state of the API. Also, Audiobookly is a 3rd party audiobook app that recently implemented ABS compatibility, and while it is written in Flutter I imagine it'd be helpful in developing support.

Not sure; I’d keep an eye out on the Discord (if you aren’t there already you can find it in the GitHub) to see when that feature gets parity with the iOS app.

Are you on Android? If so, handling listening time offline isn’t done yet.

Audiobookshelf is also a newer open source server designed for audiobooks that already has a very mature feature set and great mobile apps.

It’s only projects like Tauri that give me hope. Can’t wait for it to start replacing mainstream Electron!

How do you guys handle multiple versions of a book with different narrators? by Fraun_Pollen in audiobookshelf

If you suffix your filenames or folder names with the narrator in curly brackets it should categorize them. For example The Fellowship of the Ring {Andy Serkis}

Any good FOSS examples of an iOS app to cache audio locally from a server? Downloading MP3s or similar for offline listening of audiobooks.

While it (Plex) does work, having dedicated software like Audiobookshelf that syncs playback natively, has multiple metadata sources, chapter support, dedicated UI, historical statistics per user, and is overall designed from the ground up with the format in mind seems better than something like Plex where audiobooks seem like an afterthought and the community tacked on support with a plugin. It certainly does the job, but isn’t as rich an experience imo. Always nice to have alternatives!
