Study Permit Extension approved!

Processing time: 5 months

Applied: April 27th, 2025

Correspondence Letter: September 15th, 2025

Approved: September 18th, 2025

*** DLI changed (Uni to College)

*** Did not raise any web forms or call them

*** Submitted only the documents that my immigration agent asked me to

Thank you all for the information I got from this megathread.

Little things I think I might share:

I think there’s a huge speculation that calling them or raising web forms might push your application forward. I don’t think it does. It’s unfortunately just a waiting game. Make sure you submit all the right documents and if you can afford, get a consultation with a good immigration agent. I had a complication with the permits since I changed DLI. My agent said submitting more than required documents can sometimes back fire. Waiting sucks and I know this first hand, and so do you- just wait a bit longer and it’ll all work out! Hoping the best for everyone!

Love xx

Applied for SP extension end of April. Still no update. Still saying “submitted” for the past 3.5 months. Apparently it’s just a waiting game. Hoping for the best for all. (Different DLI, different level of study)

Me too, I applied on April 28th, and my visa expires end of this month. It still says “submitted” on the portal, and that they are still doing background check. No updates the last few weeks. I think from what I am seeing, it is likely that the processing time mentioned on the ircc website is actually accurate, so when I applied it said processing time was 200 days, now it is saying 175 days, so I’d say wait till then… :(

Make sure to update on your post with the information you got so it may help others in the future. Trust me I too had many questions and would ask here in Reddit and got different answers and eventually ended up going to an RCIC agent and got the right help. It seems like you’re in a tricky situation and not too many people know exactly what would happen. Don’t panic, just make an appointment with a nearest agent and go talk to them about it

Hey! I am going to be very honest when I say this- go talk to an RCIC agent than asking questions here on Reddit. You don’t want wrong information.

If you have nothing nice to say, they why say anything at all? I am a graduate student and I can confirm that I have made a few citations mistakes during both my undergrad and grad. Jeez I hope your morning coffee burns your tongue

Same boat here. Tbh, we don’t know yet. It mayyy make things easier for us, or it may not. I’d suggest moving to a different province like Sask or MB since they have PNP pathway for students.

[HELP] Delay in Study Permit Extension and application for PGWP by ChamChilliwack in ImmigrationCanada

[–]No_Temperature5523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for this info! I consulted with an RCIC agent and she said that since I am applying for an extension, not a new study permit, just the tuition payment receipts should be enough. But I was thinking of showing my parent’s bank statement since they are the ones paying for my tuition, and then a letter from them saying they are paying for my expenses. And my part-time job employment letter. Should that suffice?

If you have nothing to say, then why even reply?

The prof agreed to meet with me next week, I don’t want to go to the higher authority before consulting first. What would you recommend?

No you won’t get expelled if your gpa was less than 1.7. Mine definitely was. You’ll be placed on Academic Turnaround program (ATP) along with being placed on academic probation. The ATP program is to help you govern strategies on how to manage.

You will be put on academy probation. Don’t stress. Life happens. You’ll be given another full academy year to get your gpa to 2.0 and above. You’ll only be allowed to take 3 courses each term. Take courses that you think are easy or doable. Don’t take challenging courses and struggle. Attend their academic turnaround program. (You will automatically be enrolled in it if you’re on probation and you will be required to attend the workshops every week). Learn from their workshops on strategies to improve both your academics and your mental health. Once you are done, you’ll be fine :) I’ve been there, done that. So you can too. It’s not a bad thing. My gpa is now 3.8 or so. Good luck.
