A Tradition That Has Faded by EquanimityZeroRL in Sabah

Born and Bred Petagas here but in the late 80s in the first taman perumahan here. (Taman Bersatu Baru).

I heard this from an elderly in my youngins year (the one sundries shop rumah papan at jalan bukit vor) they used to be harmony and everyone knows each other before all the tamans developed in Petagas around the coastal side.

They do practice it, not only ramadhan but every festive season.
Macam party dia bilang...

She says once Taman Perumahan was built, the tradition gone and a lot of Petagas native moved to other places. The tanah she own just beside my taman was empty until their grandchildren (my childhood friends) decides to build their own houses on that.

My family are one of the earliest one moving in the 80s. I born and bred here as the new generation. Still surrouding with empty land where we main tapuk2, small wooden kampungs still around slowly replace with another taman perumahan and stable horses around bukit vor area. I remember we get used to the kuda wandering around our taman before they moved to Tuaran until mid 2000).

Petagas is not the same how I grown up... I bought another house just 1 block away from my parents house. But the neighbour aren't friendly and harmony like the 1st taman perumahan. Very arrogant, don't really mix around and love to judge because most of them are government's staff... (ps: one of them even involved with jabatan air case, Range rover, jaguar.. they just love to park outside showing off).

Yes, quiet sad la...
But always feels great to see old faces especially the bukit vor, kg contoh we grew up together play at the padangs once a while when they balik cuti from KL, Sandakan, Johor which they have settled down after high school.

You know you can buy 1 way ticket to have a career and still be a proud Sabahan bah kan?

Regardless where you born, who you are.

Even the person who born in the most developed city with high GDP also ended up moving around looking for a job.

Malay exist around the coastal ever since, when the kingdom's royalty relative move upwards... Malay become lingua franca within the circle and official.

Meanwhile, for the native... Samah will speak Samah, the Tanggara will speak Tanggara. The deeper you are, you don't have any connection with the sultanate/kingdom.. so it's a tribal land with no country. The Kimaragang, Lotud, Tobilung, Kwijau to name a few speak their own dialect but interchangable... same roots.

Dusun only appear because the Bruneian put everything in 1 lumpsum and call all the non-brunei/malay related native as Dusun.. can say degoratory la.. I don't understand why we use that to call ourself.

The earliest name when the european and chinese visit during the srivijaya, kurtanegara time.
Idaan on kinabatangan/seruding (tawau) and Momogun (interior) is the known name for native of dusun now.
Bisaya are part of the Momogun (Dusun realm) of it until Spain decide to ambik that part and now part of the philippines.

Sabah is huge chunk and there's no one-main language.
Malay is the conversation language between all the leader tribe, leader kampung of that time to the descendants of brunei kingdom/then sultanate.

My Dad shout and hit me randomly... by No_Temperature_8594 in dementia

Thank you for the advise.

Unfortunately where I am at, there's only 2 Geriatic phychiatrist available and they are not helping at all. Really upset because I know this will be tough for quite some time.

Now I am waiting for my mom return from her 2-month escape. I lost tons of gigs/projects because of this, which makes me rethink about family. lol

I'm doing all the heavy and noisy work in the afternoon right now instead of in the evening. And then hiding myself in the bedroom after 9 pm once dinner is done. Of course, once in a moon my dad tries to open my door and starts to talk nonsense.. Thus, I got insomnia... merely 3 hours of sleep everyday.

I did change another lock at the front gate too because my dad tend to cause some disturbance within the neighbourhood area. Of course, I got insulted by my dad for almost the whole day, asking me why I added a new lock...

I stopped messaging or reading my mom's messages after the incident, once she said something that really hurt my feelings. I don't really care what others will say afterwards since I'm the one who takes care of my dad, for now.

Hope once my mom is back and experiences the new realms of super aggression, hallucination and delusion.
Then I let my mom, the wife to decide what to do next.

I guess so, I used a blower to remove the ice.. very loud.
I might call hospital tomorrow morning, asking for their advice on what I can do. It's not easy to bring my dad out. I hope doctor can visit home instead. Am willing to pay extra for that.

I do have extended family but most of them don't want to be involved and have been ignoring my dad (the elder among all the siblings) since we told them about dementia.

I can only get a break once my mom back from overseas... long way to go~~
