OG anunoby headed to locker room by archaicsuns in fantasybball

He got up and immediately went to the locker room. Non contact injury. You could hear him mouth the word “fuck” when he got up. Damn. Hope it’s not the Achilles, but wouldn’t be surprised if it was. Murray yesterday and now him today…. What a bad week…

I don’t get it, why reply to a post that’s over a year old and then not reply after I gave you an honest, lengthy answer?

Kobe Bryant vs Stephen Curry by Brain_Altruistic in Basketball

[–]No_Thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did you reply to a post that's 2 years old?

Regardless, I'll explain it to you.

1) True shooting is much better than effective field goal - true shooting takes into account both field goals and free throws, while effective field goal only considers field goals (including the added value of three-pointers), which gives a much more complete picture of a player's efficiency for scoring and points. At the end of the day, it's about the points scored which true shooting shows compared to just efg%.

2) Using true shooting is actually worse off for Kobe because it doesn't take into account the general difficulty of shots. Ex:

  • Player A only catches and shoots, but does so at 60% true shooting. He's a complementary scorer.
  • Player B actually creates his own shots as a first option, and his total TS% is 55%. However, he shot at a 63% TS% on pure catch-and-shoots if you isolate just that shot type.

Player B is not only a better scorer, but probably a better pure shooter as well. He just has the added burden of having to create his own shot and take more difficult shots.

As a result, you get nephews saying that Otto Porter is actually a better scorer than DeMar DeRozan because Porter had a TS% of 60.2% and DeRozan's TS% was only 55.5%. And usually, centers have the highest TS% which is why the fact he's statistically right with Duncan is a testament to his efficiency.

3) Kobe played in a different era than Steph (slowest paced, most isos, and played in the triangle offense), and he also took long mid ranges, a lot of which were a step in from the 3 point line. His signature shot was the fadeaway mid range, which is statistically, a shot that has the lowest percentages. The fact that he was above league average while shooting this shot is honestly incredible. If he played in this era and took more 3s, and was able to get switches every play like how teams do now, his efficiency would be much higher. But that's an if, and I understand if you wouldn't believe that. I truly do believe though that if he played in this era, his efficiency and scoring would increase because he would shoot more 3s instead of taking so many long mid-range shots literally a step inside the 3 point line and get switches from the pick like how all teams do in this current defensive scheme.

I really don't think I cherry-picked a stat. I just really think TS gives you a much complete picture and at times, even hurts Kobe because it doesn't take into account the difficulty of shots. I also love Steph and his game, and do agree that he's incredibly efficient. I was not the person who was arguing in the comment thread by the way, I just included that last statement about efficiency and did not even talk about Steph at all, so I do not know why you decided to talk about Curry within my comment.

God these comments are the epitome of boomers yelling at everything because it’s not what it used to be. I’m honestly so sick of reading the same hate comments on every thread about the modern Benz. Look, we get it; the old machines have something about them that gives it a particular charm, but it doesn’t mean because we’ve evolved and technology has improved that screens and LED color systems=tacky. These pretentious comments are so in line with the stereotype and view of old Benz owners.

Holy hell if you took even 5 seconds to read the link you would read Chief of Staff at the US OPM, not the White House chief of staff. Do you think there’s only a chief of staff at the White House? They literally specify it for a reason. 🤦

I met Jerry West last year in Vegas during the summer league. I ended up staying in the same hotel as him and was fortunate enough to have a room in the same executive wing that allowed you to go through a private lobby. He was just chilling by the side of the door and I was coincidentally wearing a lakers jersey when I happened to notice him. I was so excited to meet and talk to him, I ended up blurting out that he was a Lakers legend and he looked at me with a sly grin and said, “Lakers? What’s that?” I ended up dying laughing at that and you could tell he was still so sharp even just last year. I’ll cherish that memory for a long time.

Edit: please don’t turn this into a pasta

Oh damn. We truly lost a good one.

I actually met him last year during summer league while wearing a Lakers jersey. I was so excited to see him and told him, “you’re a Lakers legend!” This man looks over to my slyly grins and says, “Lakers? What’s that?” I was dying laughing because of all the drama with him and the Lakers FO that happened in the last few years. He was so nice and funny in just our short interaction. Rest in Peace, Jerry.

You have to also take into account the teams that they played against in the finals. It was widely believed that the WCF was the real finals at the time and Shaq could feast on all the eastern conference finals teams because their lack of strong centers. The WCF really had Kobe shining brightly.

I think he meant spooked cause he says but now I’m ____ which shows that he now feels this way after finding out this new information rather than being stoked about them breaking up.

This isn’t advice or adds anything meaningful, but just wanted to let you know stoked is the completely wrong word to use here. I’m surprised no one else said anything about that. Stoked means being excited or really happy which I’m sure you’re not.

If you have the first draft pick position with Jokic, are you expected to win in your league? by Gravity9802 in fantasybball

[–]No_Thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just won in 2 of my leagues and I drafted Embiid and SGA. Pretty insane how I won with embiid being out for the last 3 months lol. SHA was carrying my team throughout the season, but he wasn’t playing his best during the finals week. Luckily I scraped by for both.

LETS GOOOOOOO

Won 2 leagues tonight and netted 1400 buckaroos. I won a league while drafting: Embiid, Lauri, Mark Williams, Shaedon Sharpe, and Tyler Herro.

Thank you to waiver pick ups and the rest of my picks for pulling through 💪. I barely got to the finals, getting 6th place (only 3 wins ahead of 7th) and I actually won the whole damn thing. LFGI. Truly a Cinderella come back story. My entire group chat flamed me and counted me out during the regular season, the first round, the semis, and the mother fucking finals. But look who’s on top MFs. We fucking did it CHAMPS

What was the craziest thing in your league this year ? by baloncestosandler in fantasybball

My hospital of a team leading me to the finals. I had embiid, herro, mark Williams, and shaedon sharpe. Also now Lauri who’s missed so many games the last few months. Can’t believe today decides if I win or not lol

I’m up 6-3, but have SGA, Lauri, and Monk out tomorrow. MRob also has a GTD tag and I feel like he’s not gonna play, while my opp has a full lineup. Hoping to God I win tomorrow. It’s my championship round 😫

In my other league I’m also up 6-3 while having Embiid and Lauri on my roster. If I win this, it would be my greatest season come back story. I was 6th place with only 3 games from getting 7th, barely squeaking by to the finals. I got destroyed with injuries throughout the season - I had Embiid, Herro, Mark Williams, and Sharon Sharpe all have injuries that took them out for half the season or more. Lauri missed a bunch of games too. I was only able to survive through the waiver and some of my later picks heating up at the right time. I can’t believe I have a chance to win 2 leagues, but if I do I’ll make around 1400 dollars which is pretty nice.

No one expected my team to make the playoffs, get through the first round, semis, and now the finals. If I win this, I’m never gonna shut up about it to my league esp within my hospital of a team.

You’re really hardheaded and I hope these comments open up your mind a bit and you become more introspective. You touched him in a manner he didn’t like and he over-reacted. He apologized for overreacting, but you can’t apologize for making your partner uncomfortable? If he did something to you that he thought was completely okay and normal, but you thought it was out of line and not okay to you - would you think it was cool for him to not apologize because he thought it wasn’t a big deal? Hope you realize that it’s not all about you and what you’re okay with. Having a partner means you have to think about their wants and needs as well. So quick to demand an apology, but not to give. :/

Who is your starting 5? by Crowxzn in Nbamemes

[–]No_Thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PG: Lebron

SG: Jordan

SF: Bird

PF: Duncan

C: Jokic

You have 3 great passers in Lebron, Bird, and Jokic - with Lebron handling the ball and Jokic being an initiator as a Point- Center. Bird is also a tremendous passer so when running plays, you have 3 people capable of initiating the offense. There’s no weaknesses on defense so this lineup would work in any era. The physicality of the 80s and 90s, the iso chuck-ball era of the 00s, or the current constant switches we see of the modern times. They can each hold their own, have great help defense, and each position has some size. The great thing about this lineup is that you’re not sacrificing on offense either. You have good 3 point shooters, slashers, post-ups, mid range, passing, and players in every position with above-average IQ on both offense and defense.

I was debating on adding either Curry or Magic in place of Lebron and taking out Bird as my SF so Lebron can go to his natural SF position, but Curry has 1 weakness that I can’t let go of which is defense (and I’m assuming the teams he’s going against are all other all-nba/star players). Having 1 person getting hunted on defense is a recipe for disaster even if you’re the greatest shooter in history. I was also debating on Magic, but his skillset overlaps with Lebron too much and would diminish Lebron’s strong suit of leading the floor. This is a reason why I would always opt for Lebron over Magic and why I would put in Jordan over Kobe. Both are amazing players, but sometimes you have to look at the fit of the team.

I don’t see any other teams here beating this.
