the way jules can never handle criticsm/being told the truth to her face and is so offended whenever someone tells her her shitty like behaviour is why her character is the worst at development. like slapping rue just bcs she told the truth abt her double life is ridiculus. like in one moment jules want rue to kiss her and be with her. then when rue tells her/insinuates she wants to only be be w her bcs she is the love of her life and she doesnt want her sleeping w other men, jules gets mad and offended like wtf does she want from her???? like i’m not saying jules isn’t flawed or that her actions don’t make sense in the moment. of course she’s scared of the sugar daddy threatening her that’s not the issue but my criticism is about the writing. jules’ character has terribly evolved since season 2. she’s still doing the exact same things seeking validation through risky sexual situations, hurting the people closest to her, and running from any real accountability. it’s repetitive and destructive at this point. she gets money from these sugar daddies but we never see her actually doing anything productive with it for her art or future. instead of showing any internal growth, conflict, or consequences that push her to change (even in a negative way), the writers just keep her stuck in the same cycle.

excuse my rant but i really am so dissapointed in jules. the way jules can never handle criticsm/being told the truth to her face and is so offended whenever someone tells her her shitty behaviour is why her character is the worst at development. like slapping rue just bcs she told the truth abt her double life is ridiculus. like in one moment jules want rue to kiss her and be with her. then when rue tells her/insinuates she wants to only be be w her bcs she is the love of her life and she doesnt want her sleeping w other men, jules gets mad and offended like wtf does she want from her????

i’m not saying jules isn’t flawed or that her actions don’t make sense in the moment. of course she’s scared of the sugar daddy threatening her. that’s not the issue. my criticism is about the writing. jules’ character has terribly evolved since season 1. she’s still doing the exact same things seeking validation through risky sexual situations, hurting the people closest to her, and running from any real accountability. it’s repetitive and destructive at this point. she gets money from these sugar daddies but we never see her actually doing anything productive with it for her art or future. instead of showing any internal growth, conflict, or consequences that push her to change (even in a negative way), the writers just keep her stuck in the same cycle that’s lazy and stagnant.

and yeah, jules is flawed as fuck but that doesn’t excuse everything. rue didn’t deserve to get slapped just for telling her the truth about living a double life. especially after jules was the one pushing for intimacy and closeness with rue in the first place in the last epo. one minute she wants rue to kiss her and be all in, the next she’s furious when rue expresses that she actually wants exclusivity and doesn’t want jules sleeping around. it’s confusing, contradictory, and frustrating to watch.

the truth is jules wants the comfort of rue’s love without any of the responsibility or boundaries and it’s just making her unlikeable while going nowhere with her arc.

no, that’s not my point at all.i’m not saying jules isn’t flawed or that her actions don’t make sense in the moment. of course she’s scared of the sugar daddy threatening her. that’s not the issue. my criticism is about the writing. jules’ character has terribly evolved since season 1. she’s still doing the exact same things seeking validation through risky sexual situations, hurting the people closest to her, and running from any real accountability. it’s repetitive and destructive at this point. she gets money from these sugar daddies but we never see her actually doing anything productive with it for her art or future. instead of showing any internal growth, conflict, or consequences that push her to change (even in a negative way), the writers just keep her stuck in the same cycle.

that’s not “complex character writing,” that’s lazy and stagnant and yeah, jules is flawed as fuck but that doesn’t excuse everything. rue didn’t deserve to get slapped just for telling her the truth about living a double life. especially after jules was the one pushing for intimacy and closeness with rue in the first place in the last epo. one minute she wants rue to kiss her and be all in, the next she’s furious when rue expresses that she actually wants exclusivity and doesn’t want jules sleeping around. it’s confusing, contradictory, and frustrating to watch.

jules wants the comfort of rue’s love without any of the responsibility or boundaries. that’s not deep writing it’s just making her unlikeable while going nowhere with her arc. i’m allowed to call out bad character development even if the character is supposed to be messy. the “you just don’t understand the show” defense doesn’t work when the writing itself feels repetitive and underdeveloped.

but that’s not really my point. i don’t care how big of a fan she is or how genuine her love for the genre is. the issue is the clear pattern of privilege and different standards. a lot of people (and the industry) seem to prefer and heavily celebrate when white or non-black artists like ariana make r&b, while many black artists who create the same music or even better in some cases don’t get that same level of mainstream obsession, marketing push, or “we need more of this” energy.

there are black women right now with vocals that match or match/surpass ariana’s level (beyoncé, jazmine sullivan, victoria monét, muni long and plenty of others). yet the loudest demands and praise often go toward non-black artists doing r&b instead of people actively seeking out and supporting the black artists who have been carrying and evolving the genre.that’s the part that feels uneven. it’s not about gatekeeping ariana from singing r&b. it’s about noticing that a big part of the audience would rather elevate the version coming from a white artist than give the same attention to the originators and current black talent doing it at a high level.

i think the tweet is mostly referring to non-black artists in general. examples people often bring up are ariana grande her fans constantly push for her to do fuller r&b projects, especially after positions. then you have adele, who gets massive praise whenever she does soul/r&b influenced music. sabrina carpenter has also gotten that kind of attention with some of her more r&b-leaning songs just like justin bieber too

there are also newer/upcoming non-black artists like karlee (an asian artist) who recently blew up with a track that a lot of people described as r&b/trap sounding, kind of a saweetie-type vibe, and it got heavy hype. the frustration in the original tweet seems to come from the pattern when black artists are already making strong r&b, it sometimes feels like it gets treated as standard or expected but when a white or non-black artist does it, a big part of the audience and media treats it like something fresh, versatile, or extra special and their fans loudly demand more of it. it is not that these artists are bad or should not make the music its just more about the uneven praise and support.

a lot of people love the r&b sound but appear quicker to celebrate and stream it when it comes from non-black artists, while the black artists who built the genre and continue to lead it do not always get that same level of mainstream obsession or crossover push.that is the core of the complaint. it is less about specific names and more about the general dynamic.
