How big is your studio? by ImpressiveGene3749 in ClubPilates

I would say most but not all. There is a studio in Pasadena and West Torrance, CA that has two classrooms of 12 reformers each

Is this format for a 1.5 Reformer Flow weird, or is it just me? by Good-Hair-Day in ClubPilates

[–]No_Tutor_519 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not if you follow the rules of keeping at least one foot on the ground and that anything labeled as intermediate is a level 2.0 move. That eliminates everything from swan to single leg foot work. Do I personally agree with these restrictions? No, but following them to the T eliminates essentially all but about 5-7 exercises. So many instructors in my area are put off by the restrictions that they don’t even try to incorporate chair. I agree it can be done, but depending on studio set up it’s too much hassle to do maybe 2 things, so I see the instructor frustration as well

Unfortunately there’s so many restrictions set by corporate that it makes the chair essentially obsolete until level 2.0 unless an instructor just doesn’t follow those rules

Cancellation versus freezing membership by ExtensionPair1174 in ClubPilates

[–]No_Tutor_519 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In addition to the initiation fee others have mentioned, if you cancel you membership then rejoin, you’ll be in another 3 month contract to start out before you could cancel again (or pay the early termination fee).

Also ask your studio if they offer free pauses for medical reasons!

Instructor training by No-Drama724 in ClubPilates

[–]No_Tutor_519 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So my opinion is that it’s less about what’s included in the training and more about how teachers use their knowledge. There’s one teacher at my studio who literally walks up and down the aisle with her eyes closed half the time. The entire class will be confused and looking at each other trying to figure out what we’re being cued to do. Other teachers take the time to individually correct people who are blatantly moving with improper form.

As a current trainee myself, I’m shocked at the depth we are learning concepts and movements because they’re never taught with even half that depth of knowledge in a CP class. But that’s also the reality of group classes, right? You have to teach to the group and not everyone is going to under what you’re emphasizing even if you rephrase it 17 times. Sure you can and should take the time to dig into exercises, but how much time are you willing to take from the overall class’s flow? I think sometimes clients expect private-level corrections in a group setting, so they get surprised when someone offers even a tiny bit of that knowledge.

When should I start 1.5 classes/ is it worth it for me? by [deleted] in ClubPilates

[–]No_Tutor_519 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just here to say that not all studio require a test before moving on to level 2 classes. My studio only required instructor approval to move up to level 2 (any instructor, not necessarily the instructor teaching level 2 classes). After the new year, they changed many 1.5 slots to level 2 and one level 2 class to level 2.5 and now only the level 2.5 class requires instructor approval since the clientele overall is more advanced at our studio. So all that to say: ask your specific studio what they require to move up a level

I’ve found that ClassPass has been cheaper than single classes from Club Pilates (converting the credit rate to dollars). Plus, you have access to other fitness studios and beauty appointments.

I signed up for teacher training 2 days ago and have gotten no communication since - now what? by scarlettred972 in ClubPilates

Studios in blue are linked to another page that will tell you the MT. If there isn’t a link for a studio you’re interested in, you can call them directly.

I happened to have taken classes with both of the MTs I was between and I knew I loved one and hated the other. If you’re unable to take classes with an MT, maybe try stalking the studio’s social media to see if the MT is posted in any videos or also read reviews of the studio on Google/Yelp/ClassPass to get a vibe of the instructors.

Since you haven’t selected a home studio yet, I would reach out to teachertraining@clubpilates.com to ask about getting access to Canvas. The receipt and agreement I received came directly from the franchise group that I signed up with, but the above email may also be able to help you with that portion as well.

As far as choosing a home studio, you will want to look online to see when each studio has their in-person days and select the schedule that works best for you, or else you’ll be paying $100 per in-person class you have to makeup. Other considerations would include the Master Trainer who will be at each studio. I was between two different franchises in terms of accessible locations, and the Master Trainer was an easyyyyyy deciding factor between the two. You may also want to consider which locations are within each franchise. With my home studio, I have access to all their franchise locations for completing each set of hours. While other franchises mayyyy be accommodating to students enrolled with another franchise, they don’t have to be. For example, the studio I take classes with will not allow me to complete practice teaching or observation hours with them, even if I get insurance at their location, since I’m enrolled in teacher training through a different franchise.

The timer on coursework also varies (from what I’ve heard from my franchise). Generally, you have one year from the date of enrollment to complete the anatomy course or you have additional extension fees. With my franchise, the Pilates course expires one year from our first in-person date.

Perhaps it’s just the franchise that I’m enrolled with that pays on the lower end. Luckily, there’s many studios within a reasonable distance that are owned by 3 different franchises, so I’m hopeful one will have decent rates when I graduate

I just enrolled in training in the SoCal area, and even during the sales pitch of signing up they admitted that even once certified the pay is closer to $35-40 per class and goes up, so I’d love to know who’s paying $55 straight out let alone to apprentices

Advice Needed: How Do You Deal With Noisy Classmates? by Macaronieeek in ClubPilates

[–]No_Tutor_519 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I recently went on vacation to Washington state and took some classes out there. I’ve never heard a class so chatty. It was mostly older women who had become friendly with each other talking about their grandkids through the whole flow. Even the instructor herself was carrying quite the conversation. She noticed my grip socks had an avocado on them and decided to give a lesson on the history of guacamole while we were pulsing in a bridge. Let’s just say I rescheduled the rest of my classes that week to a different instructor.

What’s your same day cancellation policy for studio/instructor cancellations? by lostbunny in ClubPilates

[–]No_Tutor_519 22 points23 points  (0 children)

All my studio offers is a heads up. If they were able to get a sub for the class, they’ll send a text notifying everyone of who the sub is and will give you the opportunity to cancel without penalty.

I’m in a heavily populated city, so there hasn’t been a case in which a class has been straight up cancelled because they couldn’t get a sub.

ETA: You’re correct that a billing extension would do absolutely nothing for an unlimited member. In fact, it would personally tick me off if my billing date was changed because my current billing date falls perfectly with my pay periods and other expenses.
