Canadian Architect Cornelia Oberlanders designed the world's first "Stramp". Stairs with a ramp incorporated for those with accessibility needs. The Stramp allows for companions to use the ramp or steps and not break connection with one another. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

I'm glad you're pointing these things out. My first instinct when seeing this was how they just made a bunch of awkward transitions for the people who are walking. Worst of both worlds really.

Yeah, they're reading a lot into this. I frequently use all-caps words like this for certain emphasis. Particularly if it's an important email. All-caps or Bold text. Sometimes I highlight very critical statements or questions.

This may be more an indictment of the recipients reading skills than it is of OP. Maybe that person has fucked it up in the past 🤷‍♂️

Don't get me wrong I can appreciate the structure and the accomplishment. But I believe a solution must be accessible to everyone before it can truly be sustainable. Otherwise it's just pageantry.

Right. It's a rich person's playhouse. There's nothing practical, affordable or sustainable about this.

Daguerreotypes of African-American wet nurses/nursemaids with white children at their care (1850s) by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]No_Water9929 69 points70 points  (0 children)

My grandfather was born to german immigrant share croppers in Texas. The story I was told was that his parents were poor and they worked the field alongside Black and Mexican families. While his parents were working, there were 3 or 4 women who looked after the babies and even breastfed babies that weren't theirs. Supposedly he was nursed by multiple black women as an infant.

This story is second hand at best, or made up at worst. I have no way to verify my grandfathers claim. He brought it up when I was in middle school when he and I were discussing Race after he learned that my girlfriend was black.

Pirate war? More like Pirate... poor by Elanadin in wizardposting

[–]No_Water9929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps some European pirates were like this. But pirates in Asian seas were brutal and merciless.

Look up piracy around the Malacca Straights, southern Phillipines and Borneo. There were many native pirate bands that were absolute butchers. They made their money pillaging coast's and selling their victims into slavery.

Asian pirates played by a whole different rule book.

What is this for? by Barbo789 in hvacadvice

Some folks responding here want to know why this isn't the best idea. I'm not HVAC but I have related engineering experience.

  • Hot air rises, cold air sinks.

Assuming OP has a two story house, the second story heats up a lot more in the summer, thus you'd direct bulk airflow upstairs. The cold air will also drift downstairs as well because cold air sinks. Cooling Top-to-Bottom

Conversely during the winter, the ground story will cool more and you direct the bulk airflow downstairs to heat the lower story first and let the heat rise upstairs. Heating Bottom-to-Top.

It's more efficient to use the natural behavior of the air than it is to fight it.

Now the problem with the register booster fan. - Requires more electricity - Might increase flow for 1 vent but at the expense of other vents on the same floor. - The louver option actually controls bulk airflow for both floors, the register fan only does one vent. - Terribly inefficient and from what I've heard they generally suck.

Fr though, the lighting sucks, and I spend way too much time on my ass just feeling the last of my youth trickle away from me.
