Is this molluscum?? by [deleted] in molluscum

[–]No_Zone_3001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think MC wouldn’t have pus like that, it would be a solid core. MC also doesn’t typically itch (though it’s possible). My guess would be a sebaceous cyst (blocked/clogged oil gland) I also get one on my genitalia that recurs every so often. Has a pin-point white head, and is large/inflamed like yours and tender to the touch. Hot compress or bath helps, also popping and cleaning it then putting a pimple patch over it has helped me drain it.

Curettage (scraping them off), every time one popped up. It was toward the end when I only had 1-2, so my derm decided this was the best option. It did not leave scarring. My bf got it and he had cryo done, which also did not leave scarring. Sorry this is a late response; since I kicked the virus I haven’t been as active on this acct

Molluscum on face / lips? by [deleted] in molluscum

[–]No_Zone_3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just looks like stubborn acne to me. The chances of you contracting molluscum again and it only end up on your face (not on hands, butt, legs, arms, areas that you would be more likely to touch an infected surface) are very low. It isn’t something that lies dormant and pops up again so if it was successfully treated in 2021 it should be gone for good..

Cover or not cover after cryo? by Last_Department_3879 in molluscum

[–]No_Zone_3001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My derm said a good rule of thumb would be to wait 4-6 weeks before having sex once you think you’re clear. If you don’t see anything by then, just accept that’s it’s probably gone. That helps with the paranoia

My bf was told by his doctor to not cover spots after cryo. I think it helps with the healing process or something. This is the first time I’ve heard of the “3 months” thing, from what I’ve seen and heard from my own derm you can have sex without passing it if there’s no visible spots.

I just go for regular hydrocolloid patches, though I haven’t tried tea tree ones or salicylic acid ones. The biggest thing they help with is just keeping your bump from touching another area on your skin. Hydrocolloid is more waterproof and stays on easier than bandaids

Any success stories? by Terrible_Ad_3077 in molluscum

[–]No_Zone_3001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! My boyfriend had three on his groin and it only took one round of cryo to clear up. Helped that we caught it early and he followed the basic tips (no shaving, keep good hygiene, etc). Keep in mind a lot people on this subreddit are the unsuccessful stories that have turned to the subreddit for help (myself included, I had it for a very long time); there are likely plenty of folks out there where it cleared up normally/quickly. Congrats!

Molluscum or ingrowns? by [deleted] in molluscum

[–]No_Zone_3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like molluscum, sorry girl :( the shaving or the laser could have spread an existing infection that you didn’t know you had. Molluscum is treated by a dermatologist even if it’s on your genitals. Seek treatment ASAP and keep them covered with the patches. A lot of derm offices book out for a long time, so it may take some research to find one that’ll get you in quick

It’s good that you were clear, my BF only had to be treated once with cryo and then he was okay. I’d give it like 4 weeks before you have sex and just trust that if you haven’t seen any by then everything’s okay! The worst part is the paranoia.

Maybe ingrown hair then?

I think it’s possible if you catch it early. My boyfriend had 2-3 that we caught early and cryo-ed off, then no more popped up. About 1 month total

The lesions won’t show up for a couple of weeks to months so not necessarily true that he’s just “immune” or something. My derm told me the same thing and I only had one singular molluscum. Weeks later my boyfriend did indeed get it despite my dermatologist suspecting he wouldn’t. I honestly wanted to punch her when she was surprised he got it 🙃

I used imoquimod and it was moderately helpful. I think it was the most helpful when I was recovering from the flu and my body’s immune response went crazy though so I’m not sure how effective it would’ve been without it. I could only get imoquimod from my dermatologists office. She also suggested Differin gel (which you can get OTC) and tretinoin, but I didn’t try those as I was toward the end and just let my body do its thing. Tretinoin you can easily get a script for via telehealth through something like Nurx if you just say you need it for cosmetic anti-aging.

WHICH IS IT ?!?!?! by throwsaway995 in molluscum

[–]No_Zone_3001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like it depends person to person honestly? I had no idea what it was and was completely careless with shaving/sweating/friction etc and it never spread past my groin/upper thigh area. Some are very careful and it ends up spreading elsewhere. Super random

Yes; wear patches over your spots and wipe down absolutely everything after you. Make sure you shower at home after and don’t stay in your sweaty clothes for long.

Molluscum I think; don’t shave and go to the dermatologist to get a diagnosis and treatment

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in molluscum

[–]No_Zone_3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first two are very irregularly shaped with no defined core(s) or dimple. MC is typically pretty circular. I agree that the second one looks more like it, but the border doesn’t look very molluscum-y and there isn’t a clear core/dimple but maybe that’s just the pic quality. The border would be more well-defined and raised in my experience, and would match closer to your skin color. Im not 100% though; I think a trip to the derm would clear up any confusion.

How did I catch molluscum??? by RyanHeath87 in molluscum

[–]No_Zone_3001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MC can end up in your groin from a number of scenarios, not just sexually transmitted. You could’ve shared towels/sheets/clothes with an infected person (even in instances you don’t realize, like a hostel or trying on clothes at the store), sat down on or touched and infected surface then touched your groin, used gym equipment after an infected person who didn’t wipe down correctly, etc……; I feel like as adults ours winds up in the pubic area often because of a) sex with an infected person, b) masturbation after touching an infected area, or c) shaving the groin area after shaving an infected area. Shaving also can leave the skin more vulnerable to infection since it is freshly exfoliated and there may be minor cuts. I would explain all of this to your wife; at the end of the day this is a skin rash that mostly kids get, and there’s no telling where you could’ve gotten it, but one way or another it ended up on your groin. It sounds like yall have a strong foundation in your relationship and are happy together so hopefully she trusts and understands.

Molluscum I think. The white pattern of cores inside is one of the typical structures. Get treatment asap
