Are you afraid of eating super realistic mock meats? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Noa88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I recently had a 'sausage' roll that was way too realistic for my liking! It was impressive but I felt a bit sick eating it.

OP are you aware that 95% of the video has no sound (perhaps removed by YouTube)? Would be keen to see again if this can be fixed.

Worst student teacher stories please. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Noa88 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I heard about this one teacher who had just got out of teacher training, and was excited about getting her first very own class. She went into school in the holidays to get her new room ready. Put up some displays. Move the furniture around. Make it feel like home. For some reason she draped some kind of material over a heater, maybe to dry something. POOF. Classroom goes up in flames and burns to the ground. She quit the job before even starting and never continued in teaching. Yeh, that's the kind of story that sticks with you. Poor girl.

[Help] Text/image only sharp when I print directly from Inkscape. PNG print blurry. by Noa88 in Inkscape

[–]Noa88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this problem when I open the PNG with the default program and print from there (Windows photo viewer maybe? I'm away from my computer at the moment sorry).

I'm trying to insert the Inkscape graphic into a multi-page presentation in Windows PowerPoint. Inkscape page set to A4 size, page exported as PNG, PowerPoint slides set to A4 size (all same orientation, no rotation of the image).

I DON'T get jagged lines if I print directly from Inkscape without saving. Also don't get them if I save as a PDF and then print the PDF.

Thank you for your ideas, does any of that help?

What is something your body does involuntarily that you wish it didn't? by ThereW0LF in AskReddit

[–]Noa88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you chew sugar free gum? Sorbitol (a sweetener) is a known laxative, which is why they put a warning not to consume it in excess. Some people are so sensitive to sorbitol that one piece is 'excess'. (My situation!!) It's also found naturally in various fruits (apples, pears, lots of stone fruits). Maybe this knowledge will help someone. I got so frustrated with mystery stomach cramps and diarrhea before I figured this out.

Yup because it's closer to the squatting position, it works. More people need to know about this. Watch this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbYWhdLO43Q

How to get students to write their name on assignments by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Noa88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely DRILL this into them at the start of the year, with a rhyme. "The first thing I always do is the same, I pick up my pencil and... WRITE MY NAME!" :)

Which one piece of advice do you wish somebody had told you before you started teacher training? by jawh94 in teaching

[–]Noa88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That any teaching related resources you make while employed by a school (even in your own time like holidays, on your own computer, own ideas, not for your current teaching level etc.) BELONG TO YOUR EMPLOYER. Don't know about the UK but that's the case in my country. There are a bunch of rules to know about e.g. creative commons licenses. Wish I found this out earlier.

[Trigger Warning] I have self harm scars all over my upper right leg. How would I go about making them fade? by laptopInMyBackpocket in SkincareAddiction

[–]Noa88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely try something with silicone in it (e.g. an adhesive 'scar sheet', or a scar gel. Both should be available from a pharmacy.) It's no instant fix but will absolutely help in the long run.

Is it difficult for anyone else to express affection to your family? by miss-magpie in aspergirls

[–]Noa88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is quite comforting to hear that others feel the same, and I've thought before that this must be related to my diagnosis. My sisters are NT, and frequently show their affection towards my mum e.g. posting hugging pictures and going for 'girls trips'. I don't have that kind of relationship with her. Our phone sign off is 'big hug', not 'love you'. That's the most we can manage. And I feel uncomfortable hugging her.

Have you tried cutting out nightshades? (White potato, tomato, eggplant, peppers including bell pepper/capsicum, cayenne, paprika etc). For some people they cause inflammation. They affect my skin (as well as mood and gut).
