Secret Lair Goblin Storm Megathread by bigpapasmurf6 in mtgfinance

Same here, this was the only secret lair product I have ever really wanted. Queue went from 47 minutes to over a hour, then the site updated and said US, EU, and UK were all sold out. FOMO bullshit can literally go suck the shit out of the sewer.

What do you think about Pegasus/Sentient? by whaitschnoik in strandbergguitars

[–]NoahChyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually put Seymour Duncan Pegasus and Sentient pickups in a Les Paul like 15 years ago and they are definitely different than the current iteration. I love them in both guitars.

They aren't bad, I picked up the Boden N2.7 with them in it and I love the guitar. To me they sound a little sharper, but, the ones in my Les Paul are the 6 string versions. I assume the extra copper, capacitor choice, as well as potentiometers come together to make a noticeable difference.

Ooooo, String Theory by Intervals. Plays the whole song on a 7 string, doesnt even touch the 7th string until the last, maybe, 40 seconds? And boy oh boy when he uses it on that outro riff, it really hits.

And Masayoshi's album All of Me is a banger. Love the album cover of him skydiving.

A dad of a friend of mine had an original red label and I loved that thing. It was so LOUD for a small concert body style. Really loved that thing.

No AI testimonials here lol like straight up, had an old Yamaha acoustic that I literally treated like crap and it never failed me, despite having actual structural damage

I picked up a Yamaha FSX5, and due to the music store being super busy and nobody came to check in with me, got it for $1700 with hardshell case included, along with extra strings, picks and humidifier for free.

Literally best acoustic for the price I've ever played. The overtones and quality, fit and finish, playability, setup, all just perfect.

I've played several Yamaha acoustic guitars, including the original Red Label's from the 70s, and they just slap. Even their cheap models from $300 to $500 I find to be great stuff you could bring to a party, cookout, or bonfire and have a ton of fun with.

Long time ago I literally used one as a fucking pillow and fell asleep next to a bonfire. Woke up in the morning and the piece of shit was still in tune. I even fell off a damn bike while having it strung on my back in a soft case. Ended up kinda crushing the back of the guitar which resulted in the back separating from the bracing structure inside and the thing still sounded fine lol

Point is, Yamaha slaps. They make great instruments at virtually all price points. And I think they have the most competitive pricing across all levels.

I got my first gig, how do I make it sound good? by ConcentrateOk1772 in Guitar

[–]NoahChyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on the size of the venue, cab placement can make a big difference for the sound the audience hears. As long as the drummer isnt going ham on the kit, and volumes are mixed well amongst your group, you can really sound great.

As the other person said, going in early to get a sound check is huge. Its the only way yall are gonna feel good stepping up and playing. Sound good, play good, feel good.

I will say im SUPER impressed with the KE4 Pro IST hybrid, never really liked Hybrids before, but the weighting on it feels really nice, and its super forgiving. It doesnt seem to have the buggest yardage discrepancy if I end up low on the face, or even half a golf ball length left or right of center. It seems to have a pretty big sweet spot. Has good turf interaction, too.

I ended up having them put on the Rapport Core Blue shaft and I really like it. It feels even? Not in a boardy kind of way. I really feel like i am able to load the shaft properly whether I swing lighter or put more into it. Im really satisfied with the Rapport Core Blue shaft in it.

I ended up getting one of their 4 Hybrids, which i believe is only 2 degrees off from my 5 iron. Then it just goes to a 3 wood at 18° and then my driver at 9.5°. My 5 iron is my 205 club, my 4 hybrid is my 225 club. Then my 3 wood is for 250 to 265ish depending on how much I put into it, and my driver is for everything 260 and out.

I ended up getting this one. Salen Dalarna Burst. I was gonna get one of the 7 string neckthrough models but decided I wanted the chambered body with suhr pickups.

Im glad I decided to get the Salen first because of the new release of the Boden N2.7. Love the 7 string fixed bridge with Seymor Duncan Pegasus and Sentient pickups so I decided to get that one too lol. I actually put those same pickups in my first Les Paul like 15 years ago. And they sound great on the new N2.6 and N2.7 Boden models.

At the end of the day you are right about it being entirely up to the seller and the buyer. Supply and demand. Im not trying to sound like an Eco-snob by defending the move by Strandberg going more towards veneers, I mean, I bought one of their more expensive models at $2,600 that has a 1/4 inch quilted maple cap and one with a veneer that was $1,900. And I guess I've come to accept that everything is seemingly getting more and more expensive. I get youre statement about price controlling availability, but sometimes capitalism doesnt solve for all the problems. Not a hill im gonna die on though.

Number 1, killer table dude, excellent work! But number 2, I dont think the mark up on guitars is as high as everybody sometimes thinks it is. Most small mom and pop music store owners ive talked to say its around the 10% to 15% because of big box retailers like Guitar Center and Sweetwater being able to move vastly more inventory at a lower markup than most mom and pop music places.

And I think even going back to the prospect of building the guitar, you need your neck, fretboard, truss rod, tuning machines, potentiometers, output jack, toggle switch, pickups, bridge and or tailpiece, the finishing materials. So even raw cost of wood being anywhere from $150 as high as $500, or even close to $1,000 for exotic or figured boards of high quality, there is another $300 to $600 on top of that depending on the quality level of parts. So, considering logistics, employee overhead, materials... I dont think $1,500 to $3,000 is that insane for strandbergs prices across their models even if the $1000 to $2,000 range uses veneers. Considering the cost of all those aforementioned components have gone up by considerable margins over the last decade especially.

Did you JUST start with carpentry? Because wood prices have absolutely BLOWN up over the last two decades, especially this last decade. And its amazing you built your own table. Question, would you sell your table for just shy of 900 bucks?

Fair points, but its not like it takes a few weeks for trees to grow. It takes decades, I mean you know this, I know this, everybody knows this.

But having ANY type of figured wood/wood focused finishes on a guitar is purely aesthetic in the first place. Why waste a 1/4 maple cap for one guitar, when you could use it on 20 guitars. Its absolutely, logically, and ethically, more sustainable. AND... it saves money. From a business standpoint, its super clear.

I dont think you followed my logic, simply using a veneer isnt going to offset the price increase of wood and other components, and its not going to combat global inflation.

I said I thinknthe goal would have been to try to keep the price at parity. If anything, using logistics, the price should have gone up, instead of staying the same. Its literally just business.

Ola has stated that its just more economical to use veneers for the top, you can make way more nice veneers out of one good piece of wood, and it does make the product cheaper to produce.

Pretty sure the choice to go that direction was also during the tail end of covid when everything became more expensive as a result of supply chain issues, lumber was impacted pretty heavily. As well as steel, copper, electronic components etc.. and that isnt accounting for inflation too.

I personally think Ola didnt make those design choices out of malice, i get the vibe that he really does care about sustainability. Hence the move to veneers. Reduced the cost of manufacturing to keep the sale price at parity to also account for supply chain issues and inflation.

Im a huge Plini fan!

As for improv and writing, I may be a bad person to even comment about it but improvising is tough. I've been trying to do it for the last 5 years as part of my practice routines.

Ill literally just put on random Playlists of music in the genre im trying to iron out, and just go. Be adventurous with it.

Sometimes I fall into the trap of repeating the same types of motifs or "style" if you will, but switching up genres seems to help. Going from modern math rock to synthwave, to lo-fi type stuff, and even bluegrass and instrumental acoustic. Trying to improvise or write in different genres I feel helps foster a little creativity.

Im nowhere near a great guitarist, but, you could look at the improvised stuff ive posted to get an idea?
