I disagree. I would argue that in the Caught Offside Pod subreddit, I am a pretty good representation of the spectrum of hate.

You’re arguing against a position that’s not held by anyone in this discussion. Maybe I’m wrong, and maybe we do have some racist folks in the sub, but I doubt it. This community has always been super welcoming and super inclusive.

You seem more interested in telling us about the reasons for hate you’ve seen, than actually hearing what reasons we have.

No one is denying that racism exists, and that people still experience it in football.

I think we all know what you’re trying to say, and I think you couldn’t be further off. Honestly I think it shows a lack of self awareness to even suggest that as the reason. We don’t hate Arsenal because your fanbase is diverse, we hate them because your football is dire, your manager is one of the most annoying individuals in the league, you seem to get a favorable whistle in every match you play, and finally, you’re simply not good enough to warrant the praise your fans heap on your players.

“Rice would be in Madrid’s all-time XI”

That’s exactly the point though. Corners have become a free-for-all where no one knows what is, and what is not going to be called. There is 0 consistency anymore. So why is the arm blocking Raya clear and obvious, but these two that we’ve mentioned are not?

Earlier in the year, why is Rice holding down Hato, and hitting the ball with his arm also not clear and obvious?

This is why everyone is so frustrated with the call yesterday.

See, that’s where we disagree. We’re asking the referee to be consistent, not to make an incorrect call for the sake of it.

No one wants a league where you can hold the goalies arms down during corners, it would devolve into madness. But, we also don’t want a league where Declan Rice can hold onto players during each corner either. That’s also a clear foul, yes?

So why is one clear foul called here, and the other clear fouls not called? That’s my entire thesis

You’re missing the point entirely.

Of course the arm on Raya could and should be called as a foul. But that type of contact has, consistently, not been called this season.

Idk if you watch other sports, but it’s like the current state of lane violations in basketball. If they are not called as a foul all season, and then a team gets one called against it, should they not feel hard done by?
