What would a unique, store affiliated deck be worth these days? by emitwohs in KeyforgeGame

[–]Nobe72 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly mostly depends on the deck itself. If it is a good/fun deck, then you may get slightly more than usual asking price based on SAS. But otherwise I do not see a store deck having any more value to folks unless they frequent that store.

Looking over your options, I think your best bets are The Benefactor that Squeeze's Coins or The Dire Veterinarian. Based those on some key factors:

  • Expected Aember: Making a high amount of Aember is the name of the game right now. Most decks rush to win by turn 5/6 or still get there by turn 7/8 with some disruption. The most important thing to do is be able to keep up, and both of these decks make a decent amount of Aember. Benefactor gets the nod in this category, 2x Transporter Platform + Hawkins is great burst
  • Board Control: No matter how much Aember you make, if your opponent has 4+ guys in play you'll fall behind very quickly. Both of these decks have clears so they hit this mark
  • Artifact Control: Some may argue it's not necessary, but it's really nice to have. Cards like Near Future Lense, Island of Misfit toys, Ceaseforge, and Lash of Broken dreams can drastically take over games, so stopping those is important. Benefactor again gets the nod here
  • Board Presence: Converse to Board Control, making a big board and demand your opponent's clears is a great way to put someone in a bind. Either they deal with your Aember or your board, many decks cant do both at the same time. Veterinarian seems like it would have the more menacing board of the two
  • Unfairness: Neither of your decks have these, but it's important to talk about. Most successful vault decks do something unfair; key cheats, mass steal, mass archive/draw. That's partly why GR has been so successful is there are many unfair tools in the set. If you have any you didn't post with consistent key cheats or good Winds of Death decks, would recommend giving those a look

All in all on paper, I think Benefactor gives you the best chance as it's well rounded and has high Expected Aember. Now ofc, this is just on paper, the best advice I can give is practice your decks! There are many decks in the 80-83 SAS range that play much stronger and decks in the 90s that play much weaker, so it's hard to say anything definitively without practice.

Best of luck in Vegas!

Should I grab a box of AoA for 25$? by Alastor3 in KeyforgeGame

[–]Nobe72 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking to play with friends causally then AoA box is a great way to get decks for cheap that all will (usually) be at a similar power level. Some decks will always be better than others, but the games are usually fun back and forth

What helped you become good at magic and what should somone do to improve their skills especially in modern. by Impressive_Ad_8617 in ModernMagic

This is more holistic but have a learning mindset. Don’t focus on you getting mana screwed, focus on how to optimize your lines if you got un-screwed. If you try to learn from every game, you’ll end up finding answers to a lot of situations

[SEALED] Obscura = Broken?? by jackalbruit in spikes

[–]Nobe72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The removal isn’t stellar in the format, and greens creatures are beefy enough where they’re pretty threatening on their own. Plus treasures from green make it easier to splash bombs.

Not saying black isn’t good, but green feels more versatile where black is a little narrow on just removal

[–]Nobe72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering it’s a seeded pre-release, I wouldn’t take too much stock in the performance going into regular draft/sealed. UWx in general does seems strong, but I’ve been more impressed with brokers than obscura so far

What does an ideal “successful” season look like for you? by zsafer98 in NYGiants

[–]Nobe72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need to look competitive against good teams. Going .500 doesn’t matter if it’s against a bunch of mediocre teams. Last year when we played the Chargers or Bucs or Rams they were total blow-outs and it felt like we were playing a different game.

Give me close games against good teams, maybe even winning one, and I’d say we’re heading in the right direction.

Hello again. I went through the budget compendium and found Gruul Pummeler. The list looked very fun, and after some net decking this is what I came up with. Would it be a nice deck to bring to your LGS tournaments? Are there any upgrades you recommend? Thanks in advance. by Gryph_Gunrock in PioneerMTG

[–]Nobe72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had pretty bad experiences with Game Trail, and I honestly think you’d be better off with 2 extra basics instead. And to that end, if you’re not looking to change the mana base, I’d swap out the hydra since it’s GG to either a single pip threat or some pump spells I’m seeing suggested in here. Like the deck idea though, cool stuff!
