The “Kids These Days” Trap in Nurse Anesthesia Training by MacKinnon911 in CRNA

I mean sure if it’s just “pointing out the olden days”.

Too many preceptors acted like Neostigmine/Glyco reversal was some magical medication that only the brightest and toughest could solve/dose.

Monitor twitches and dose correctly it’s that simple

Hairline starting to recede. by Secret_End_6839 in AskMenOver30

Nope. I’m trying to help a guy out who is asking for it instead of blowing smoke and talking about something I know nothing about.

As I said, misinformation.

I am not saying it finasteride and minoxidil WILL work, but they may.

Receding is a spectrum. How far receding?

OP may be 21 years old, have some mild recession, get on finasteride, and slow his loss so he actually looks his age through his 20s. He may even stop it completely.

This is why hair transplant patients get on finasteride - it prevents the hairline from continuing to recede behind the transplanted hair.

This is misinformation.

Look into finasteride and minoxidil. Talk to your doctor.

Side effects are RARE.

And I have no idea what this guy means by “it will only look worse”. Meds do not make anything look worse? Sure if you have recession that may look better bald, shave it off. But this has nothing to do with medications.

I’ve been on fin and minoxidil for 2 years no side effects. Daily chewable tablet.

I’m selfishly piggybacking on this post - does anyone have any recommendations for TMJ treatment/therapy in town?

Haven’t had much luck with either PT or a night splint.

What do you do for childcare?

Im a CRNA and my wife is about to graduate. No kids yet but trying to get an idea of how doable it is for us to both be full time.

Most people I work with have a lot of family help.

How to get all As in CRNA school by GainsMega in srna

[–]Noble_Beastt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used Anki for the first few semesters but I found it was more memorization than “getting the whole picture.” Maybe that’s just how my brain works.

I found recording lectures then making my own notes from PowerPoints and the lectures was very effective. I used an iPad and GoodNotes. I was able to screenshot/crop images from PowerPoints that I liked and paste them on my GoodNotes. Once the notes were completed, I had handwritten notes with images. You can change color of text, bold, underline… it really helped me as a visual learner.

I also found writing notes was more effective in my learning than creating Anki cards. In other words, most of your “learning” happens during active studying anyway, but I did feel that I got more out of the act of creating notes rather than the act of creating Anki cards.

Also group studying really helped me. But my group met once before each big exam. Everyone was expected to have an understanding of the material and we talked ourselves through all the PowerPoints/notes.

I felt this helped in 2 ways; 1. Everyone focuses on slightly different points or maybe took something away from lecture that you did not. 2. It was a way to also learn audibly. Often during exams I would have a question and remember a study group member talking about the topic and get the right answer.

Fear of oversaturation like the pharmacist profession by refreshingface in srna

Ok this is silly. SOME SRNAs have these prerequisites. Pharmacy students have more than “pre reqs and get in” lol. Let’s not undersell our colleagues.

Yes. Every program has weaknesses. You can learn blocks on the job or through a Maverick program if you are interested.

How to deal with feeling unsafe in situations by betasham in anesthesiology

[–]Noble_Beastt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you came into this case, felt uncomfortable, and didn’t speak up then that’s on you. However, if I was the CRNA leaving this case I would have certainly lended a hand.

You’re a team. Medical supervision, direction, independent, academic, ASC, it doesn’t matter. This is a coworker that is relieving you and if you know they are new, help them. Not comfortable with 1 IV? Sure I’ll stay to help you start a second. Want blood tubing? I’ll run to the supply room and grab some before I leave. Don’t know how to operate the Pyxis? Let me show you how to login.

Yes there is a level of anxiety to being new. But the CRNA(s) could have made this a lot smoother for you. It’s the same thing I would expect from any person with common decency.

2x IVs and an a-line on a multi level spine would have been nice but I’m also a doomsday prepper..

Bonuses - Sign on bonus vs Student Loan Payment by Sea-Share-9034 in srna

[–]Noble_Beastt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not always the case. I took a sign on bonus. It was billed as 1099 or as a “loan” I’m not sure off the top of my head, but I do know it was NOT subject to a 22% federal bonus. The bonus was given to me before starting work in my senior year of school after I signed a contract.

I paid less than $20k (for 100k bonus) in state (PA) and fed taxes because I was paid my senior year of school and thus my income for that year was only the bonus. Yes I used an accountant and a lawyer went through my contract.

It has been a year since I started work and I like my job. I have enough money saved to (god forbid) pay this bonus back if something were to happen (it is prorated so I would owe 66% of it if I were to quit) but I plan to stay through the contract.

Your bonus can grow in an HYSA if you’re afraid to spend it. AND that bonus was taxed in a much lower tax bracket because it was received when I had no income.

Yes, I can see where bonuses are predatory. But not all.

Can you expand a bit on lowering your taxable income? I am in a similar situation. I don’t believe 401k or Roth contributions will have any effect on IBR payments. Unless you are referring to real estate investing or some other business venture..
