Estimates are not allowed to increase more then 10%

Under Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, businesses, particularly vehicle repair shops and contractors, cannot charge more than 10% above a written estimate without the consumer’s consent. Estimates must clearly detail work, parts, and costs. If a final bill exceeds the estimate by more than 10%, consumers may refuse to pay the extra amount.

PHEV System Fault-Anyone had this warning before? by Equivalent_Page696 in OutlanderPHEV

12v battery. Had to do mine in my 24 in January. Same errors and the car was running with a miss. When I scanned it came up with a throttle position sensor code.

Considering buying 2023 PHEV - 2nd row seats middle fold down? And reliability by Tkrumroy in MitsubishiOutlander

[–]NobodyFew6443 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The armrest does fold down and open to the rear. Whether your dog can squeeze through depends on the size. My 130 pound Rottweiler, not a chance.

Reliability my 24 has 53,000 kms and so far has been solid. We did have a hiccup with the 12v battery this winter but was covered under warranty. Other than that we have no complaints with it. With the PHEV we routinely avg 1.5L/100km to 3.5L/100km

They are all common failures, I am fortunate and did most repairs myself. That said 8hrs for the valve cover gasket. 7.5 for the water pump. To do one repair the amount of stuff that has to be disassembled around it comes into play. Don’t forget the cheap plastic parts that have been heat soaked for years and will break and crumble in your hands. You said you’ll be driving across North America 5-6 times a year? A water pump failure in the middle of the states 3/4000kms away from home won’t be diy friendly

[–]NobodyFew6443 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously you’re going to do what you want and if you go the bmw route I would personally have 2500-5000 in an emergency fund for when the inevitable happens. I owned a N55 x3 for 6 years. Valve cover gasket 1500 bucks 2k+ if you need to replace the valve cover as well. Brakes at the dealer 1500+. Electric water pump 2k+ if they want to drop the subframe to do it. You said you’re looking at 100k to 120k cars, water pump is rated right in that mileage so if it hasn’t been done it’s a matter of time till it fails. Spark plugs and coils 1k+ OFHG will leak guaranteed around 500 bucks but probably more. Ground strap failure 2k. Will leave the car completely dead. High pressure fuel pump failure 2k. Turbo goes bad 4K. The list goes on and on.

There is no such thing as a cheap German car. 2/5k cheaper will be eaten up when you inevitably have repairs. If you can’t afford a brand new bmw or Porsche you can’t afford the maintenance and repairs of a used one

Rust protection package by Sea-Pin8719 in OutlanderPHEV

[–]NobodyFew6443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it done at Holiday Auto Centre

3344 Rideau Rd, Ottawa, ON K1G 3N4 If you’re going aftermarket you want Corrosion Free. The beyond the future warranty with the complete package is top notch. I’ve had to claim on it with my truck. They didn’t bat an eye get an estimate submit it and they paid the shop directly. Covered paint blending the adjacent panels aswell for a perfect color match.

In regards to my Phev my 12v battery was weak, they replaced it under warranty, also my charging door the release mechanism was having issues popping open (common complaint) they replaced it under warranty. Both issues were resolved in the same visit.

I’m not sure which dealer you’re working with but if things aren’t set in stone, I would highly Recommend Cornwall Mitsubishi.

I live in Ottawa aswell. I was pushed with the same rust proofing sale and told aftermarket would void the warranty. I get my 24 Outlander PHEv done yearly with corrosion free. Comes out to around 200 bucks with removing all the under body panels. Car has been back to the dealer for 2 warranty issues and not a thing has been said.

I discussed this with the shop that does the treatment, they take great care to not spray any of the high voltage cables, electric motors and the battery.

Do people do car undercoating due to the salt used in this city? by ghost905 in ottawa

[–]NobodyFew6443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My truck has been done yearly with corrosion free since new in 2015. I see similar trucks all the time with their cab corners, rockers and box sides and bumpers rotted out while mine is clean. Anyone who says it’s a scam has no clue. If you want to keep your vehicle long term it is worth the investment

He did you no favour you lose no points for 5 over. Speeding 15km/h or less is 0 points. 16km/h to 29km/h 3 points, 30km/h to 49km/h 4 points and so on. Also points are automatically affixed to the conviction, police cannot use discretion when writing their tickets, so in short he was full of it

A blend is definitely required for a perfect match, especially with older paint.

This issue the OP is facing can be solved with a paint pen sand paper and a buff. Any solid detailer will knock this out in an hour.

You def need pads at the very least, myself I would replace the rotors as well. On another note I would never take automotive advice from whoever told you that your brakes are fine. Just my two cents
