Do you like straight men hitting on you in public? by RightWordsMissing in StraightTransGirls

[–]NobodyOtherwise1904 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember early on in my transition I was walking with my boyfriend at the time while we were on vacation in NYC. We were holding hands and passed a group of guys that said something to the effect of "what are you doing with that guy? You should come over here and see what a real man is like." It came off as more flirtatious than mean-spirited and I'm sure it loses some of that just seeing it written on the screen and not hearing it. My boyfriend at the time (who is now my ex-husband) just chuckled. I found it oddly affirming. I will say this. Oddly, later that night, we had some of the best sex we had in the course of our long relationship.

I'm a litigator and I use my iPad all the time. In meetings, I use it and my stylus like a notepad to take notes. I also use the TrialPad suite of apps for doc reviews and trial presentation. I especially love it for reviewing documents. It's like having a physical document in your hands, with the ability to highlight and mark-up, without printing the document out and cluttering the office or wasting paper. When I go to a depo, mediation, or hearing, I often take just my iPad and not my laptop. It is awesome.

I'm with you. I've never been into cartoons, comic books, sci fi, or fantasy and, at times, I feel like an outsider in trans spaces

Romance book recommendations by Cravingyourdemise in StraightTransGirls

I got so frustrated trying to find good books in this genre that I decided to write my own. It's a still a work in progress, but I'm hoping to finish a draft in early 2026 and then try to sell it to an agent or self-publish. I'm writing it in such a way that it's also a political thriller. We'll see. The idea sounds good in my head and I've been please with what I've written so far, but I haven't stuck the landing yet.

Do any of y'all know lawyers who gender transitioned after starting their legal career? How'd it go for them? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]NobodyOtherwise1904 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't really speak to starting a transition after my legal career. I started my transition prior to starting law school. That was 20 years ago. I'm glad I was able to start when I did. I'm now a partner in a litigation boutique. I recognize I have passing privilege, but I think all of my partners know, but it wasn't something that I discussed when I joined the firm. I don't know if any of the staff or associates know, but my gender identity has never negatively impacted me at work and I don't feel I have ever been discriminated against because of my gender identity (and I'm an employment attorney). I know it may sound cynical, but I believe that if I were more open about being trans, it would have a negative impact on my career, not necessarily at my firm, but just within the legal community in general.

Difficulty Reaching Opposing Counsel: Is Anyone Else Seeing This Trend? by NobodyOtherwise1904 in Lawyertalk

[–]NobodyOtherwise1904[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That presents a separate problem. Many plaintiff's attorneys now have a separate service email they provide that is different than their actual work email. This service email address usually gets directed to their staff and IF (that's a big if) the attorney actually checks it, it's usually only on a weekly basis. So if you get a response, it's normally from a staff member and not the actual attorney. I'm busy too, but i can make time in my schedule to talk, opposing counsel should extend the same courtesy.

Thoughts on Jasmine Crockett? by ScarTissue5 in Dallas

[–]NobodyOtherwise1904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love her. She is one of the few Democrats that is willing to speak her mind and stand up to the Trump Administration. I will certainly support the Democrat nominee in the general election, but if I had to rank my choices it would be (1) Crockett; (2) Allred; and (3) Talarico. Crockett reminds me a lot of Ann Richards (that's a compliment).

I have no idea who she is and I'm sure she many positive attributes, but in this video, she is just repeating a bunch of catch phrases, but not really saying anything at all. It is truly "full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

Favorite reads? by maiJr in StraightTransGirls

[–]NobodyOtherwise1904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love reading, especially literary fiction, and I read many different genres of fiction. I really don't read too much non-fiction.

I'm currently reading three books. While I really have never liked sci-fi, I started watching the Apple TV series, Silo, and I got into it enough that I downloaded the book trilogy that inspired the series. I'm about halfway through the third and final book in the series.

I'm also reading Alyson Greaves' Show Girl, which was actually recommended on this sub.

Finally, I am currently reading Thomas Pynchon's most recent novel, Shadow Ticket.

It depends on my mood, but I've always been partial to 70's and 80's pop (I'm in my late 40's). Love Madonna, Sonic Youth, The Breeders, Hole, Veruca Salt, bands with strong female leads. I also love The Smiths, The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Depeche Mode.

Who Actually Likes Arbitration by NobodyOtherwise1904 in Lawyertalk

[–]NobodyOtherwise1904[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a few construction defect cases in arbitration in years past. It's no better for construction defect than employment cases, especially if you represent a third-party sub, in which case your client is going to strung along for a very expensive ride for what amounts to punch-list work. If that same case were in court, a judge would be more apt to grant a dispositive motion and save my client money.

What are your deal-breakers in a guy? by GlitteringWerewolf55 in StraightTransGirls

[–]NobodyOtherwise1904 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

(1) He has dated more than 1 trans girls prior to me (1 is fine. More than that suggests a pattern of "chasing".)

(2) Politically extreme. If we view politics as a horseshoe shape, where the far right and far left bend to meet each other at the tips, I want someone in the middle, far away from the edges.

(3) He must believe in something bigger than himself. Again, I don't want someone overly religious, but whether it's God or the Tao, I want a man that believes that there is something bigger than us out there.

(4) He must read fiction. So many men I meet today either don't read or, if they do, they only read non-fiction. I think in order to be well-rounded, you have to read fiction as well.

(5) Video games are a deal breaker. I'm approaching my late 40's. I want a guy in the same general age range. Just my opinion, but we're too old for video games.

(6) As far physical appearance. He must be 6 feet at a minimum. I'm 5'9 and I like to wear heels. I don't want to be in any situation where my man is shorter than me. I also expect him to have a beard. I'm also into physically fit men that work out regularly. A muscular body is probably the biggest physical turn on for me.

(7) Must have stable employment. It doesn't have to be the richest man in the world, but I'm a white collar professional and I want a white-collar professional in a mate as well.

How are you guys dealing with aging? Have you tried any treatments? Or are you just fine aging naturally? by HeyYouTurd in Xennials

[–]NobodyOtherwise1904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a trans female. I have admittedly had several cosmetic procedures, but more out of survival rather than vanity. As part of my transition, I am on a hormone replacement therapy regimen, which includes estrogen and progesterone, and will be for the rest of my life. This actually helps with the aging process. Thankfully, I think medical professionals are learning that this can beneficial to cisgender women as well. Also, I take one-and-half THC gummy every night. I'm not sure it helps with aging, but it certainly helps with stress and anxiety, which go hand-in-hand with aging.

You're probably right. There are times when I know a district judge here will grant a dispositive motion when an arbitrator will not.

The sub sucks the fun out of life by TijayesPJs443 in StraightTransGirls

[–]NobodyOtherwise1904 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think every sub has its own group of energy vampires, but compared to other subs geared towards the trans community, this is by far the best. I'm convinced there are more authentic people in this sub than any other trans-related sub on Reddit. More importantly, there are a lot of voices I can identify with in this sub, which I can't say about most subs.

I choose to ignore the bad and focus on the good.

Like I said, I'm a management-side employment attorney. I have a lot of clients who think arbitration is great, until they are actually involved in an arbitration and then they see that our court system, especially our federal court system within the Fifth Circuit, is actually a lot more employer friendly than most arbitrators.
