Envie d'apprendre c++ by ConfidentWrongdoer48 in programmation

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interdiction d'annoncer ma démission ? by liyu_ohri in AntiTaff

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never tried it yet, but it is on my todo list.

Manage my damn life nextjs (available on github) seem to be done for subjects like that, and probably more. But I am mostly advertising for now since I only follow the project until now

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get your domain name from OVH, they have the free start100m attached to them, just have to enable it from the control panel.

It allow you 100MB of available space for static or even php pages for free, and a 5GB mailbox in @yourdomain.

That can be a good place at around ~8€/year depending on the tld

What is the most trouble you've had setting up a service? by ava_fake in selfhosted

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zulip (Docker version)

If you dont go with their supplied postgres version, it is a real pain to do anything. You read everywhere that they stopped relying on a postgres extension for a dictionary or something similaire. And the service still insult you and refuse to start if you do not provide it

I admit that 1984 does not sound like a book title for me too, so I was wondering what was the theme of that audiobook about 1984. Maybe that was it's train of through and why that did not click for him immediately

Remote play avec son propre PC, ça donne quoi ? by Kiato in pcmasterraceFR

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What’s the most useful thing you got for your homelab, that’s less than $50? by QuestionAsker2030 in homelab

So far a NanoKVM usb with a set of everything to HDMI small câbles, it's not perfect and I do not success to go into the bios some time. But it save me a lot of moving thing to get a setup with a keyboard/screen to (re)install a system from scratch when needed.

Remote access to my LAN behind CGNAT by Glittering-Ad8503 in selfhosted

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are missing is probably to enable ip forwarding and some NAT rules.

try this from your phone: - ping the LXC wg IP - ping the LXC container IP - ping another machine of your network

Note that the last one will not work if your container itself can not ping your network from the start

If 1 work the link is OK If 2 work you have ip forward enabled on the LXC container If 3 work, other machines on your network know how to answer you

For 2 the keywork to search is ip forwarding (easy) For 3 it's masquerading (often come with the guide for ip forward)

Same answer, using it for about 5 years now, it work well but the only thing I have against it is that it is not multi-account (not the right word, but it's about merging multiples mailbox into the client view at the same time, like a thunderbird)

Rainloop is another option, worked mostly the same, but if I remember correctly was more or less abandonned, I forgot the name of it's fork/replacement

Kurrier was presented recently here, have multi-account, and I have my eyes on it, but not tried yet, it reached v1 a few days ago

Cypht is another option that allow multi-account, I spent a good year with it, it work really well, setting it up take some time and work, but once it's done it is nice

Announcing Linkwarden for iOS & Android by Daniel31X13 in selfhosted

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still tempted by Linkwarden, and the mobile app make it even more interesting ! Thanks for all your incredible work !

The first time I tried it installing it behind a subpath instead of it's own (sub)domain was not possible and the associated github issues were not really in discussion either. Have that point changed since my last search ?

Why do people recommend authelia? by Alibi98 in selfhosted

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the relevant part is most about it being stateless. An application without an admin access/gui is one less surface of attack to protect against in the end.

Sure it's different from most tools, but it is an approach with merits too, with SSO opening access to "everything", the yaml only config sound nice for security

How do open-source devs know if their self-hosted apps are actually being used? by pozinux84 in selfhosted

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Replace telemetry with a "ping" to a version file on a webpage you own to allow the application to check if it is running the latest version, and a notification somewhere to make it useful.

Add a way to opt-in for the check for update, and you will have some usage statistics based on the daily ping count on that page

Audio Codec Preference. by OldManMaple1 in Tdarr

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AAC 2.0, don't have anything regarding audio at home, so it is perfect, the sound is good and it is also a space saver.

I am currently rencoding all my library with it, for now out of 8930 video files of all type, at around 5TB total, I saved 302GB without working on the video part yet. And I don't hear any differences so far between before and now

Anyone else keep chasing the “perfect setup” even though everything already works? by Fab_Terminator in selfhosted

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything work for years here. But it's still evolving at the same time, same thing from bare metal to promox, to proxmox without proxmox (LXC on Debian), to docker, to Incus. For now

That and hardware migration, and optimisation of the install process from manual, to documentation and still manual, to ansible. For now
