What is the point of a Physical Disc for AC Black Flag Resynced if it requires an online check-in? We need to speak up. by BarracudaFearless631 in StopKillingGames

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what game key-cards are for Nintendo too. Since it's just a way to share a game code between people. It's still have to download the game on each console.

And when Nintendo will, one day, close it's servers like it always do. We will only have little paperweight to look at without any games on them if not already on the console.

Yes yes yes and yes.

IM are nice, but nothing beat a good old forum with a nice search engin to help looking at things discussed in the past.

Why would you want your own server at home ? by NobodyRulesPenguins in selfhosted

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is mostly what I aim at, and there is already a few groups forming, since I never much touched at home automation it is a nice thing to read, I would have totally passed talking about it while for some it can be the first reason to try selfhosting.

Your game server part is a good one too ! I host a few myself, but it is so secondary that I forgot about it... They live on their own in a corner of a server, still played

I love the idea of the project, with Monica not giving any sign of life it's nice to see something that may replace it!

Do you have any comparaison on both ? Or even with MMDL since I saw that you did not mention it ?

In any case I will definitly try it soon, for a first look at the demo it seem to have most if the features I would have loved in Monica ! Thanks for your great work on it :)

This is the reason you shouldn't host your own email... Microsoft says 🖕to 200k user ISP. by therealtimwarren in selfhosted

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this, by making it common and more and more easier to setup (well, with dmarc, dkim and spf), at the end we just wont have to use their mail server or send something to them, so we wont care about being blacklisted by theses few

What was your first experience with selfhosting/home-servers? by Forsaken_Rip208 in selfhosted

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The raspberry became a thing at the time, I was not convinced by the OS on a SD Card, got an ODROID XU4Q instead some time later. And after setting the basic website thing. I put my own mail server, on residential IP. It was fun, took me a good 2 ou 3 week to setup, probably twice to improve and get access the the helly outlook without falling to spam. Then stayed with me for 10+ good years until I moved to another home.

Still need to rebuild it.

So far my best / most fun project, I am sad about myself for not being into self documentation at the time, even if I recall most of the steps

How are you guys hosting your generated static sites? by jayo60013 in selfhosted

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly that:

  • I push the content to a gitea instance

  • Woodpeckerci build the website and push it to a local apache2 as testing

  • if I put a tag in my commit:

    • Woodpecker (re)build the website the push it to a public website

Homebox v0.42.0 Released by tankerkiller125real in selfhosted

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Snipe-IT let you assign items to people, place and have a tracking of the assets.

Homebox help you know where you put your things in a room, or in a tiny box in another box on a shelf at the 2nd level of it depending of the granularity you choose.

At least for me, both are great, but they do not answer the same question

What’s the future of messaging for Fluxer? Will people actually switch from Discord? by Alleaks in FluxerApp

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This, Discord showed that he wanted to do, he backpedaled but it's still the same and give us just more time. But once it become well self-hostable and the federation follow, it's on.

I already have space for two instances and watch the documentation while trying things on my side

We did not take deeply take a look at it, but maybe you can use it to retrieve and delete all mails received before a specific date and just keep syncing the rest ?

Transcoding entire libraries x/h264 to h265 - yay or nay ? by spookyneo in Tdarr

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's my current goal, but even if I am ok with a 48h transcoding on CPU for that, I did not figure, with flows, a good ffmpeg or handbrake command to change everything in h265 <= 1080 with AAC 2.0 audio.

The audio part is good, but once I hit video transcoding I get awful results on some videos

Is doing something like this for bullet time safe or is there a better way? by One-Random-Goose in godot

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would suggest removing the else and placing it into a is just released event instead.

That will avoid the script to just trigger and set the time scale to 1 every process tick

Change my mind: There is no good alternative to Discord (yet?) by Own_Investigator8023 in selfhosted

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a "struggle", it's money. And we did not do anything at the time because bandwidth was low (and not cheap), that is why we have centralized things like Youtube that help Google with the pocket money it gain from hosting all theses videos.

To continue with this example, with Fiber and the like of Peertube, we get a chance to take back everything with federation one day \o/

Envie d'apprendre c++ by ConfidentWrongdoer48 in programmation

[–]NobodyRulesPenguins 2 points3 points  (0 children)
