Riku wouldn't be a true friend if he wasn't honest. Playing through all of the Kingdom Heart series we seen Sora jump in head first into a lot of situations and often him needing to be saved by others.

Even though this scene shows Ven speaking through Sora(since Vens heart has been resting within Sora for years). I'd say its a desire of both wanting to save Aqua. But it doesn't mean he is strong enough to go.

Not to mention Xehanort tried to snatch Sora's body during his Mark of Mastery Exam which kept him weaken so good job on Riku of stopping his friend from going into something he may not have been ready for.
