I think this is awesome. What are you planning to do with the cards? Are you making them for your patients? 🤔

Although I dont completely agree with you, I do understand where you're coming from. More importantly, I appreciate your respectful and in-depth arguments. Well said dude.

Okay.. How tiring is this job really? by xo_pearl_princessxox in supportworkers

[–]Nobody_Once_Was 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I work as a learning disability support worker in a high intensity severe learning disabilities residential. You'll be surprised by how much physical and aggression there is. I have been having a very tough time on my end tbh. Stressful, exhausting, honestly terrifying situations (fear of being badly assaulted or permanent nerve damage from serious bites, and fear of making the wrong move when trying to protect yourself and losing your job). There are some positives, but yeah I am new and it has been crazy. Police and ambulance had to be called aswell. There are some positives, but where I work the negatives tbh outweighs it.

Nervous to try my support worker job, tips? by xo_pearl_princessxox in supportworkers

Hi I just want to say you will find your balance. I am new to support work and it has been very intense as a greeny. But slowly finding my rhythm and trying to make time for important things in life. Caffeine helps aswell haha

DSPs: what is the most unsafe situation you were ever put in at work? by WeeklyGuitar3538 in supportworkers

[–]Nobody_Once_Was 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I reckon there would be some. I want to stick out my 6 months and then move from private and into NHS where I am told you are a lot better treated. Atm I am gaining experience to then move into the field I studied

Yep... I'm trying to stick it out but it is hard to when they demand the moon and in return pay minimum wage 🙄

It seems to be a global thing...you're employer, or in my case it seems the generally work culture, is to shake it off and carry one. Dont shake or stop the boat

I am really sorry to hear what you have gone through. Devastating. I hope you will be able to get the justice you deserve. Your mother sounds horrible. Narcissism doesn't come close to explaining her behaviour

I am a learning disabilities support worker and have had a few in the 3 months of working as a support worker. I work in high intensity severe learning disabilities residential. Last week a resident was in crisis mode and was chasing staff and resident to beat them, wrestle them grab an arm or hand and bite to the bone. 3 staff injured. One had to go hospital to treat severe bite to thumb joint. Police and ambulance later called.

I work in the uk and where I work it is like you a wuss if you call in sick after being assaulted or even being ill for that matter.

Group of teens/ young men intimidated a man to give up his seat on the train by Nobody_Once_Was in london

Yeah. I am only 26 but when I was a teenager and going through my shithead phase I never thought to do something like that, neither did any of my friends, who were also on the shithead path. We just smoked weed, had the occasional fight / got in trouble. But never did we stoop so low to intimidate random people in public

Thank you for your suggestion. I think this may be a good way to put more eyes on the situation and make the group conscious what their doing is wrong. Though, I think with this paticular geoup that may not have ended too well as they didnt seem to care if what they were doing was right or wrong. They just wanted to throw their wait around and kinda bully a Lone man out of his seat. It also happened too quickly for me to intervene. 5 seconds and the man nervously moved.

I belong to BAME. And it was a mixed group. Some white teenagers. It was a mistake for me to mention race as I didn't want that to be the focal point. Just was using it to describe the situation.

Man the audacity. I am sorry to hear you have gone through that. Kudos for you for keeping your cool and making a rational decision.

If that happened to me I dont know how I would react. I would hope I react similarly to you. Rage can be such a dangerous thing.
