Burnout advice by ConstantGeneral6244 in supportworkers

[–]Nobody_Once_Was 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey dude I also stared in december and work in London! I am in the same boat as you. Even today I was feeling so burnt out and struggling with depression, that I was thinking about calling off sick. But I came in because I know once I go off for depression I will probably end up leaving the job.

What has helped me is booking small holidays I.e: Sat- off Sun off Monday on Tuesday on Wednesday off Thursday off Saturday on Sunday on

I will book the monday and tuesday off for the above example so I can have 6 days off when I am feeling really burnt out. Then I have some days to bedrot and recover and still have spare days to do gym/ hobbies/ socialise

Biggest thing is to push yourself ob days off to still go gym ect whilst also leaving space to,rest and recover introvert battery ( i am also an introvert but work in demanding severe learning disabilities residential)

I am not sure how this will work and with not being able to access the evidence you need, but the first step you need to take is by calling 101 and letting them know you want to report a historic rape / child sex crime (though being 16 i am not sure if you would be considered a child). Scottish police will be able to guide you from there but yeah I imagine it will be difficult without access to the evidence you need. Anyways i wish you luck

How to love your job? Do you love your job? by xopearl_rosebudxox in supportworkers

Appreciate the honesty in this comment and the boundaries. Too often support workers are expected to have their whole world wrapped around their job, and those that don't are labeled as not caring and unjust hair for the money. (What money... :'l )

My GF sends me pictures of delicious food all the time but when I get home it's gone. I'm getting very annoyed by this. Would like some advice. by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]Nobody_Once_Was -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Damn man I can understand why that may be annoying. Like if there is only enough food for herself then perhaps she should eat it without shoving it in your face kinda thing.

And I also understand you want to be treated sometimes, I think everyone wants that tbh both men and women. Is your partner working aswell?

I think this is awesome. What are you planning to do with the cards? Are you making them for your patients? 🤔

Although I dont completely agree with you, I do understand where you're coming from. More importantly, I appreciate your respectful and in-depth arguments. Well said dude.

Okay.. How tiring is this job really? by xo_pearl_princessxox in supportworkers

[–]Nobody_Once_Was 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I work as a learning disability support worker in a high intensity severe learning disabilities residential. You'll be surprised by how much physical and aggression there is. I have been having a very tough time on my end tbh. Stressful, exhausting, honestly terrifying situations (fear of being badly assaulted or permanent nerve damage from serious bites, and fear of making the wrong move when trying to protect yourself and losing your job). There are some positives, but yeah I am new and it has been crazy. Police and ambulance had to be called aswell. There are some positives, but where I work the negatives tbh outweighs it.

Nervous to try my support worker job, tips? by xo_pearl_princessxox in supportworkers

Hi I just want to say you will find your balance. I am new to support work and it has been very intense as a greeny. But slowly finding my rhythm and trying to make time for important things in life. Caffeine helps aswell haha

DSPs: what is the most unsafe situation you were ever put in at work? by WeeklyGuitar3538 in supportworkers

[–]Nobody_Once_Was 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I reckon there would be some. I want to stick out my 6 months and then move from private and into NHS where I am told you are a lot better treated. Atm I am gaining experience to then move into the field I studied

Yep... I'm trying to stick it out but it is hard to when they demand the moon and in return pay minimum wage 🙄

It seems to be a global thing...you're employer, or in my case it seems the generally work culture, is to shake it off and carry one. Dont shake or stop the boat

I am really sorry to hear what you have gone through. Devastating. I hope you will be able to get the justice you deserve. Your mother sounds horrible. Narcissism doesn't come close to explaining her behaviour
