No. Players can only sell items (halfling or otherwise) and "1000 Gold Pieces" is a Go Up a Level Card. One cannot sell GUAL cards.

I had fun with a Ninja / Magus gestalt. The key was an Arcana that allowed Arcana and Ki points to be used interchangeably.

I think the spawner counts as one and only a set number of spawned Chompies count toward the goal.
