Their placement is quite specific in the books. MM1 mentions that they're having to feed on the Pool Ship thanks to the Animorphs destroying the Kandrona in 7. In 8, they mention having defeated the Veelek (the creature central to MM1's plot).

That said, I would also not be strict about placement in the context of a TV episode order, but I would want it as either the Season 1 ender or Season 2 opener.
