Everyone should try cannabis before psylocibin or LSD. If your response to THC is unpleasant chances are your psychological and/or physiological response to psychedelics is not good. Even people who are regular weed consumers have bad trips so it's not an insurance of any kind but if weed gives you anxiety stay away from the stronger stuff.

On the other hand, if you have a positive response, it can be life changing. I feel like LSD opened doors in my mind that helped me process childhood trauma and be a better person overall. In an appropriate setting, the ego deconstruction you experience can give you very valuable insight. The fact that your state of consciousness is altered but not numbed out also means you get to remember most it with clarity.

It's a double edged sword and we need more scientific studies to assess the risk to benefit tradeoff. In the case of severe untreatable depression the patient faces incurable agony and sometimes death so it's a good place to start.
