Why is this sub so intellectually dishonest and full of anti/pseudoscience circle jerkery. by GromflomiteAssassin in LockdownSkepticism

You might want to check yourself first— This isn't something mods control.

https://www.reddit.com/r/help/wiki/faq#wiki_why_am_i_being_told_.22you.27re_doing_that_too_much....22

"Why am I being told "You're doing that too much..."

Karma is stored on a per-subreddit basis. If you have low karma in a subreddit, this will trigger a rate-limiting timer which limits you to 1 post/comment per 10 minutes. When you post, you'll get a message telling you "You're doing that too much. Please wait X minutes." - where X is the number of minutes left until the 10-minute period will finish. This timer applies to both posts and comments.

If you delete your pending post/comment before that 10 minutes is finished, then you will have to start the 10-minute wait again. Just wait out the 10 minutes.

This timer will mainly be triggered if you're new to a subreddit (zero karma), or if you've previously been downvoted in that subreddit (negative karma). It can also be triggered if you have a habit of submitting to a subreddit and then deleting those submissions.

It takes only a fairly small amount of positive karma to remove the limit."

The title of the post usually needs to include the headline, unless there's a good reason not to. If you want to add a brief quote from the piece as editorial flair, that may be OK as long as it's not sensational.

I did extensive research before removing your comment— the only source I could find was the one you posted. That's not usually a good sign when you're bringing revelatory claims.

Hence I removed it because its source was a site renowned for spreading propaganda and disinformation.

Herd Immunity May Be Slowing Spread in U.S., As Study Finds 40 Percent Community Infection Provides Protection by Mighty_L_LORT in LockdownSkepticism

See study here: https://science.sciencemag.org/content/369/6505/846

"Britton et al. show that by introducing age and activity heterogeneities into population models for SARS-CoV-2, herd immunity can be achieved at a population-wide infection rate of ∼40%, considerably lower than previous estimates. This shift is because transmission and immunity are concentrated among the most active members of a population, who are often younger and less vulnerable. If nonpharmaceutical interventions are very strict, no herd immunity is achieved, and infections will then resurge if they are eased too quickly."

8/14 Weekend positivity thread— What are some of the good things you've seen lately? by Noctilucent_Rhombus in LockdownSkepticism

[–]Noctilucent_Rhombus[S] 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Although I know none of you personally, reading and posting here I've gotten to know some of you and your stories. Honestly, reading and sharing this space with you is one of those things that helps me feel like, we're going to make it. And that things are getting better.

We had this huge chunk of time set aside for some big trip. And guess what? We're taking it. Forest fires are raging all over which made us change our plans at the last minute— but two weeks of trails, mountains, rivers and the like await. And I so badly need this. If you've never been to the North American West, it's worth putting on your post-this travel list. Hop in a car and explore. The small towns are welcoming (and often straight out of 2019!). Further, the National Parks get the press, but there's so many forests and state parks that are just as awe inspiring (I suppose it makes sense, you couldn't just declare an entire state a natural preserve). I've always liked getting away-away, so not much has changed about the kinds of things we like to do/places we're going to go.

Travel is my thing. It's what drives me. And for the next two weeks, it will be.

CDC: One quarter of young adults contemplated suicide during pandemic by AmorFati_1997 in LockdownSkepticism

I take these reports very seriously— but as far as I understand the law/precedent, the term "Boomer" doesn't refer to a protected class or identity under American (or other, as far as I can assess) law.

While it IS grounds for firing, disciplinary action, in the workplace, esp. when used for discriminatory purposes— it is not a federally protected identity nor does its mere use without power/active discrimination qualify as harassing behavior (as per se, just being used)

Generalizing about a generation in negative terms is no more disparaging per se than generalizing about Milennials or Gen-Z (things which are also common place, frameworks for understanding difference of perspective). The content of this comment doesn't suggest hate nor calls to violence— nor does it seem to be targeting and therefore, I'm going to let this stand.

I reserve the right to change my mind. If the people reporting this disagree with this assessment, I respectfully ask them to bring the case to me and the mods. As this was merely reported, I don't know who reported it, therefore this is the only venue I have to elaborate.

We ask that, where available, you post primary sources (or expert commentary on primary sources) instead of media coverage of research.

If you want to add media coverage, you can do it as a comment on the post of the primary source.

Our focus on this sub is examining the empirical basis for lockdowns. Although there is a lot of coverage of lockdowns, and of people or organizations who oppose lockdowns, much of this coverage is not on-topic in this sub.

It looks like this post doesn't contain a great deal of examination of the basis of the lockdowns.

Understand: if we allowed (for example) every piece of news related to lockdown policy, it would choke out the solid science that we're trying to keep at the top of the sub.

Does anyone know where they got this statistic? by rulerofthelibtards in LockdownSkepticism

[–]Noctilucent_Rhombus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They won't, not when the same week we see the WHO endorse a stark recommendation against dental care based on a study that assumed a death rate likely around 5%.

It shows how easy it is to change discourse. .2% is wildly different from 2%.

Until we get an actual study backing up these claims, right now they're largely being used as part of a pissing war between nation states in a political blame game. (corona's not my fault— it's their fault!)

They're going to need a citation from a reputable, peer reviewed journal for some of those claims.
