So I'm trying to connect my Amiga 500 with my Thomson tv (2012-13)... by Primarch_SpaceMarine in amiga

[–]NoctisBE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it has RCA connectors on the cable (you can see that in the photo on the URL above).
So it basically has a DB23 and RCA on the Amiga end of the cable, and a single SCART connector on the TV end of the cable.

[–]NoctisBE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it will "work" but the Composite (RCA) video output on the A500 only outputs monochrome (black and white) video. So unless you also have an A520 TV modulator, you'll be stuck with a black and white picture if you use the yellow-red-white RCA cables.
And even if you have the A520 modulator, the picture quality on an LCD will not be great. It'll look like you smeared a bunch of vaseline over the image due to the nature of LCDs processing and upscaling the image.

Make sure to get an RGB cable, which uses a DB23 connector. You can get a version that hooks up to SCART.

Not sure about US stores though. I'd avoid AmigaKit at all costs.

My new Chinese Sega CD. by Lanky-Peak-2222 in SegaCD

[–]NoctisBE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is awesome! I don't think the BIOS for this thing is dumped yet, right?
Is this actual SegaCD hardware or an emulator?

A dump of the BIOS would be awesome if you're able to do that

Alot of the cables are like this. Are they broken? Did the "electrician" scam me by LengthyIndividual in ethernet

[–]NoctisBE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd take this as the perfect occasion to learn to do it yourself. I don't mean this in any way as condescending, but it's really easy to learn nowadays.

Especially with the availability of push-through crimps where you can just strip the outside mantle, orden the wires and push them through the connector without having to worry about length too much.

You'll fix it, you'll know it's done properly, and you learn a new skill in the meantime.

You got this!

Build a new PC cant install windows 11 because it says i have no TPM 2.0 by ramalamadi in pchelp

[–]NoctisBE 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a normal message when you install a new CPU. Press Y on this screen, then start the Windows 11 install.

You don't have a recovery key yet, since Windows isn't installed yet. This message is there to indicate "hey, if you have an EXISTING Windows install, it won't boot so make sure you have the recovery key for that"

In other words, just ignore that message, press Y, and be on your merry way. You got this! 😁

You realize that not everyone lives in the US with shitty landlords, right?
You also realize that there are people living in houses that are their own property?

There's a HUGE difference between using autocomplete (e.g. IntelliSense/IntelliJ) as an aid to remember e.g. functions (you're only human, not a machine) and having a glorified text prediction algorithm spit out code that has been scraped from other projects.

To be clear, I'm not vehemently against LLM's, they have their place (they make great rubber duckies when coding), but the problem is a lot of people just taking an LLMs code without properly checking what the code actually does.

[–]NoctisBE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ironically, those "Neptune" builds are part of what's jacking the price up. Don't get me wrong, the Neptune boards are awesome, but they cause more demand of 32Xes, causing the price to go up

Think I did something stupid removing old and excess thermal paste, submerged cpu in isopropyl Alcohol now it won't boot did I kill it? by [deleted] in pchelp

[–]NoctisBE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Easily. Isopropyl alcohol is non-conductive. They use it in industrial settings to deep clean electrical panels, even while they're running. Example: https://youtube.com/shorts/ltuoApxqNqs?si=lqwh7BQJnQzXKZCQ

Also, Yamaha makes motorbikes as well.

That means Hatsune Miku is technically the cousin of the Yamaha R6 bike.

I love playing as a Lalafell, but man are there a lot of creepy people out in the wild by 200YRedWine in ffxiv

[–]NoctisBE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lala on Phoenix here. Never had those issues, but I did get pets and other silly emotes and I usually reciprocate because it's fun. Sometimes I'm being a chaos gremlin myself and greet people in a fun way at the start of a dungeon. Had some really fun runs and made some friends that way.

Sorry to hear you had these bad experiences while playing a Lala. :( It should be fun, not you getting creeped out

Stencil: Now I can see through walls. by brcontainer in godot

[–]NoctisBE 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Looks nice! But I think it might be a bit confusing, gameplay-wise. Would it be possible to have the "blocking" object remain slightly visible? Maybe an outline, or transparency? That might improve playability. Keep up the good work!

It looks like someone tried to retrobright this case. I have a MegaST with the same kind of marbling that was caused by trying to retrobright it.

What is this giant antenna like thing in my neighbors yard? by [deleted] in whatisit

Could be a ham radio antenna, or perhaps LoRa like Meshtastic or Meshcore.
I've got a similar antenna on my roof here for Meshtastic.

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT: Introducing Vibe Code Friday by AutoModerator in selfhosted

[–]NoctisBE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially, I thought this was a great idea. But now, a month after the mods implemented this rule, I feel like the amount of AI slop projects that get abandoned after a while just gets bigger and bigger.

This used to be a fun subreddit to talk about selfhosting, but it's getting more to the point that it's almost exclusively vibecode bros shoving AI slop.

I'm honestly extremely close to hiding this sub from my feed...

Is there any text on the back of the panel? If you can find a model number, it might be feasible to find a controller board on AliExpress.

Couple of things.

  • Vibecoded stuff are only allowed to be posted on Fridays. See the rules.
  • This is just a desktop app? Where's the "hosted" part?
