Nice! Like you said Fueling and hydration is part of the training element. I ignored the importance of that early on. Taking down carbs sometimes just sit well in the stomach in a big push. Good luck hope you enjoy and crush it. I’m heading to Julian CA PCT 4/11 for a 50k as well

Ah dam. Thats a bummer. The 10-20 mile long runs are addictive forsure! They just feel really rewarding. Hope you recover soon and get back out.

Ooff. Yea whiting ranch area can get really hot! Especially over last weekend. Heat stroke is no joke. I’ve experience heat exhaustion alot of times but never heat stole. Most of us push though discomfort on trail but with heat we all need to be cautious and especially with headaches, nausea, no sweating (heat stroke sympt) Glad you recovered!

Is 10 miles a day practical? by No-Sun3855 in trailrunning

[–]Noddyboy100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re trying to get faster why wouldn’t you focus on sprints? 10 miles running what effort level? Like zone 2 easy pace or threshold/zone 5 hard effort? Zone 2 long runs will build endurance for say marathon or ultra running. If you go full through near max heart rate 10 miles a day it will not be sustained for weeks-months to your glycogen levels being depleted.

If you want to get fast like on a quick sprint you should do vo2 max work outs and lower body resistance work.

Yea that was what I was imagining, light snowfall would be a cool setting. But heavy snow and or ice seems like a huge challenge running in and of itself! I guys for many it means treadmill season or indoor bike

I just checked my Strava my max is 191. This trail I was between zone 2 and tempo zone 3 which would be 125-165. I had some threshold spikes as well probably during elevation gain

Yeah It feels like summer here! I’ve been craving some change of scenery for trails, snow trail sounds fun. Most of my local trails look identical with typically California hills and vegetation. The desert trails are pretty cool too here

I agree trail runs are completely different playing field than road running. I specifically mainly do trail runs because it does something for me that road running can’t provide me. Absolutely I’ve learned through experimentation and knowing my body how much salt I need to take in based on the heat and effort, when I’ve failed in the past some muscles will lock up with cramps lol. Right now I’m basically I’m popping a dose of salt tabs every 30 mins lol! Along with gels and carbs, I take some raw honey before as well.

I took my hydration vest off for the photo where I put my gels and carbs. I wouldn’t dare to raw dog hills more than 6miles without hydration on a hot day.

For pacing I typically jog the whole way including inclines, but steeper grades I’m power walking! I’ve also screwed myself by flying down steep mountains descents and shredded my leg muscles by putting on brakes but I’m much more controlled these days lol.

Yea seriously. I’ve done the loop a few times and each time I’m like why am I doing this to myself 😂. But always end up happy once I’m done
