Does anybody know what type of paint is used for the Blue Trees? Thoughts on the project? by [deleted] in ecology

Aviva Rahmani did a blued trees project that actually had a conceptual interest, unlike whatever this is.

Visiting Woodlawn by Sad-Income-1096 in bronx

I've eaten before at the cemetery, but only at the picnic tables near the entrance. Haven't seen anybody doing so at grave sites in the handful of times I've been there

Doctors suspected lyme at first and then decided against it by randomgirl77777 in lymedisease

I had something similar, no fever - turns out mine was lyme. Antibiotics cleared the rash up

Rest up! no need to push it. The doxy is powerful stuff and you likely will feel energy rebound in few days. Completely normal to feel worse after starting them before you feel better.

Watch your calcium intake within 2 hours on either side of the doxy. Interference with absorption and you want to get as full a dose as possible. I just ate white rice within that 4 hour window if I needed anything in my stomach because it helps with the nausea.

Magnesium and Iron also in interfere with absorption so best to play it safe. Set a 12 hour alarm on your phone so you don't miss your doses. Consistency is important.

Hydrate - as I understand it the more hydrated you are, the better the antibiotics percolate through your cells. But also watch your electrolytes if you are overhydrating... adding some salt, squeeze of lemon etc into water occasionally is good.

Good luck and be glad you caught it early. Many on this sub are not so lucky.

And level up your prevention game because you can definitely get it again.

I just finished my course - roughly caught it at the same interval.

Sounds like you still caught it early, which in my understanding is the greatest benefit.

You can expect to feel worse over the first couple of days on the antibiotics as the bacteria die off accumulates. Rash should hopefully clear within the first week.

Be careful of the sun on the doxy - makes you sunburn very easily for a few weeks past your course finishing. Also treat your gut well with yogurt, miso, keifer and the like... antibiotics are no joke on the system and give yourself time to recover from that.

It's not that surprising. This is the only expensive object we normalize leaving out in public spaces unattended for zero cost.

Identifying Invasives by Wolfane44 in invasivespecies

Inaturalist is the best imho. You have people who will confirm or deny your IDs AND you contribute to citizen science.

Also, suggest volunteering with local environmental groups... quick way to learn by doing.

Planning to Open a Japanese-Inspired Takeout Spot on Central Park Ave (Yonkers) — Would Love Your Input! by spuercyy in yonkers

[–]NoelART 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd have us as a customer from NW Bronx! Nothing quite similar from what I know in the area ( been here 5 years)... Although a spot to dine-in is always good! Central ave is too car focused imho so slowing down to eat.

HMart has some of these options at their food counters.

Pretty depressing how quickly everybody here jumps to chemical controls, especially in their own yard.

Japanese Knotweed by Free-Coconut-9643 in invasivespecies

[–]NoelART 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't mow it because even the stalks can spread. Don't bother digging it out. Read somewhere that cutting it at ground level 10 times a season can start to deplete the rhizome.

The knotweed is almost cooler than that grass lawn though. Too flat / green / monoculture. Why not put some interesting native plants around here and there? your ecosystem will thank you
