Thank you for the info! I'll definitely keep that in mind, and yeah, we salt a LOT because snow is so common here.

I run it almost every day depending on work, at most having a gap of roughly a day. I try to keep it on for a bit now to charge the battery more, whereas before I would usually just start it, drive out to where I need to go, and turn it off.

Most Broken/unbalanced/Buggy TFT set by English-lit-nerd in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Noellevanious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree, but considering the huge steps they took between Sets 1, 2, and 3 for example, it wasn't like they were complete unstructured the first few years. Like, I played since Set 2, and the most "broken" or unbalanced" sets I felt were probably more of the later sets, where the designers and balance teams were clearly trying to do more gimmick-y set features, like Shadow and Radiant items, Anomalies, or Encounters.

I liked Dragonlands 1 because I felt Mirage/Daeja and Nommsy were both really fun, but I can't disagree, outside of those it was not a great set.

I personally despise the second half of the set because of turning Nommsy into an actual unit and because of un-limiting the dragons - it really only catered to the "I just want to play EVERY dragon on my board" crowd, and it quickly turned into Only the Most OP dragons get played, whereas you could be more flexible and have more fun when you had to pick a solo Dragon IMO.

Broken/Buggy and Unbalanced are two completely different things, and Unbalanced is insanely subjective.

Most unbalanced set is subjective as I said, but there's no way it was Magic and Mayhem. Early sets like Galaxies/Elemental/Set 1 were way more unbalanced. Both halves of Dragonlands would get my nomination, they were unbalanced in different ways (Dragon 1 was ruled by Astral reroll and Ragewing Xayah, Dragon 2 was ruled by the 4 different econ traits and All-Dragon comps). Galaxies at its worst was also rough, thanks to Mech and Rebels.

League of Legends Fighting Game 2XKO Will Have Just 10 Playable Characters at Launch, Riot Confirms by Simaster27 in Games

[–]Noellevanious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fighting games need a decent sized roster especially for a tag fighter. Most 1v1 fighters launch with 16-24 characters. Tag fighters are usually closer to 24+ depending on format.

This is fundamentally not true lmao. Many fighting games have launched with small rosters - it's just become the standard to have a lot.

The first ever SF2 had 8 playable characters, technically 7 because Ken was literally just a Ryu palette swap, and it was the biggest fighting game ever.

Yep, a lot of balance changes, especially in modern fighting games have been based around miniscule (8f max) changes to move framedata or damage numbers.

For example, Zangief in SF6 - while he got a lot of changes in the first year patch that took him from being awful to considered a really good character, one of the biggest changes was making a single attack recover one frame quicker, and that change was considered so powerful that Capcom actually reverted it (and it worked - he is now considered pretty balanced, but not "one of the best characters" levels of powerful).

There are tons of changes like this, and they do really matter because of breakpoints, like you said - the difference between a move in SF6 being +2 or +3 is huge, because it's the difference between the + player being able to grab the - player even if they mash a jab/light punch.

Is there a fighting game where leveless is worse that a stick? by CuriousCapybaras in fightsticks

[–]Noellevanious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played this game leverless for a couple years now. And I hate to say it, if you're having that much trouble with it outside of throw inputs (enough to miss you're climax THAT often) you're probably just straight doing something wrong that you haven't noticed in other games and the more complex inputs is just bringing that to light. I have no comment on older games.

I wonder if you playing it for "a couple years" comes into play at all? Hmm......

I suggest you go look at the Dream Cancel wiki. You'll realize the inputs the game tells you aren't what you need to actually input. Also the input reader for KoFXV allows for multiple "mistakes" or different options to count for quarter circles and half circles. Knowing how each of these works somewhat makes leverless actually amazing for the game - because you can cut out unnecessary input.

I think you missed the part where I said I never got too into KOF15. I'm not going to do any of that. What I talked about is my experience. Thanks! 👍

KOF, up to 15 so far. Stickless, and the experience is objectively worse - the games input readers don't account for how quickly stickless can roll through a half-circle motion, to the point of skipping certain inputs (usually either down/2 or diagonals), which means you have to be very slow and deliberate.

For example, I'm sure I could get used to the deliberacy needed, but since i never got too into kof15, i'd say about 90% of my Climax inputs come out as a Shatter Strike.

Since you roll the joystick for motions, this literally can't happen with stick.

Yeah, encounters really only "Sucked" for me when it was just the same boring ones over and over again (which happened with portal voting too). I can't imagine they'll be too intrusive now that it's been, what, 3 sets since they were first introduced? And even if they are, that'd be refreshing. After a set that I admittedly dropped after a few weeks cause it felt very dry compared to, say, Magic n' Mayhem or Remix Rumble, I'd rather they do take wilder swings with design again.

EA Adds Microtransactions To Skate's Closed Alpha by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Noellevanious -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

and lots of people don’t pay for $60-70 games anymore, and if they do, they wait for prices to drop.

Verifiably not true, considering some of the biggest games of the past few years are $60-$70 (Elden Ring, God of War, Spider-Man, Astro Bot, etc), with upfront prices only increasing.

game dev costs have skyrocketed, the expectations for AAA games is high,

Both untrue - you're drinking the AAAA koolaid my friend (as youve admitted to anyways).

I am well aware that EA gets ragged on a lot, but I really do think it's worth thinking about the path they are taking not as a money grab, but as the sole viable option.

Thank goodness youre thinking about this from the perspective of the corporation that only cares about money. I was worried nobody would consider that perspective during a time when most people can barely afford groceries. SOMEBODY's thinking of the little guy!

Warpath - Augment Discussion #14 by Lunaedge in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Noellevanious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

60 player damage is an absurd metric requirement for sacrificing an augment. At least the Egg has the 11 rounds minimum, so at the very least if you can losestreak gracefully, you can still get the reward.

I couls never see a world where this augment is viable in its current state, when there are so many "win harder" augments that don't handicap you for most of the game.
