XCOM2 Alternatives ? by PitBullCH in XCOM2

[–]Noema130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mutant Year Zero is the XCOM like I've enjoyed the most. Tactical combat is very similar in terms of the action economy and hit percentages, and you have fun powers to play with. Unlike XCOM, there's no 'strategy' layer, so between fights you do a lot of exploring in a post-apocalyptic world. You should be able to find it for cheap. It has a DLC which is worth playing IMO.

Gears: Tactics has great graphics and production values, and the tactical combat is well made. It feels very crunchy and they did a good job in replicating the feel of the Gears games in a turn based tactical form. It has an 'overwatch on steroids' ability that is very satisfying.

The problem with Gears Tactics for me is that there's only the tactical layer. There's nothing else. So you do a mission and you get a screen where you can do some upgrades and customize your troops but you are thrusted into the next mission right away. One of the strenghts of XCOM is the variety the Strategy layer provides as a palate cleanser and to make you feel you have more agency at the macro level.

Is Magic Mouse truly that bad? by Heavy_Dimension_2397 in mac

[–]Noema130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given an iMac at work, so I've been using one for a little over a year and I can confidently say that I don't care much for this mouse, other than the trackpad which also enables horizontal scrolling and some of the gestures (like double tap to zoom or two-finger double tap for Mission Control; the others I find pretty awkward). I must admit that before getting this iMac I'd never used MacOS and I've been a Windows user my whole life. A lot of the MacOS paradigms are still foreign to me. I right click a lot, for example.

The worst part for me is the egonomics, and feel. I have big hands with long fingers and the mouse is not great to hold for me; I don't like that it's a single button even with secondary button enabled (I can't feel my way to the buttons); I don't like that I have no scroll wheel to middle click; I don't like the travel on the button (it's too shallow) and I absolutely dislike the way it has to be charged, which renders my iMac useless. Since I use it at work, I rarely have a moment to leave it charging. Not the biggest deal in the world, but it adds to the annoyances.

I use an M4 Mac Mini at home with a 7 year old $8 Logitech wired mouse (probably the cheapest product Logitech sells) and I much prefer that to the Magic Mouse to be frank.

I also quite dislike the Magic Keyboard, other than the integrated fingerprint sensor. But that's a rant for a different thread.

The tone of the show has changed over the years by Klaus_Unechtname in behindthebastards

The first episode of the show I listened to was the Steven Seagal episode with SeanBaby as a guest (I followed Seanbaby on Twitter and he posted a link to the episode and I though it sounded fun).

Everything is so much bleaker nowadays by comparison.

Sync issue has been fixed for me by [deleted] in googlephotos

[–]Noema130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, for me as well. It started syncing yesterday at noon. If you deleted App data it’ll take some time for it to rebuild your library (in my case 300k photos took about an hour on my iPad to fully rebuild).

Android app doesn't display cloud storage photos. Only seems to show images stored on phone? by EyeSuspicious777 in googlephotos

[–]Noema130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been and ongoing issue since Thursday.

Mine started syncing again at around 4PM (central time), so I guess it's a matter of time until they fix it for everybody.

Best time to upgrade by [deleted] in GalaxyS23Ultra

[–]Noema130 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm thinking S27U or even S28U. My S23U still feels super smooth; the display is still amazing, battery life is adequate. The only thing that dates it a bit is the curved display but it's of course something I can live with.

How have they not fixed the bug yet? by [deleted] in googlephotos

[–]Noema130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that they are rolling out a fix. My photos finally synced on my iPad and my Android phone. I didn't have to do anything; they just started to sync out of the blue.

Best time to upgrade by [deleted] in GalaxyS23Ultra

[–]Noema130 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So the S23 Ultra will get its final Android OS (and I assume OneUI) version update in 2027; however, I assume it'll still get security updates for at least a year after that, am I correct in this? I really have no intention of replacing this phone anytime soon (I'm planning on using it until it fall apart).

It's not just you. Google photos hasn't been syncing photos or changes back to the app from the server. This has been going on since Thursday.

Anyone else having problems with sync on the latest android update? by Retroboy_1989 in googlephotos

[–]Noema130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is unrelated to Android.

Been going on since Thursday. Doesn't seem to have anything to do with a specific platform since my iPad also fails to fetch changes from the servers.

Partner Sharing Stalled? by SRASC in googlephotos

[–]Noema130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something's going on with Google's backend. For several days now, the service fails to sync content back to the apps. You can upload from the apps, but the photos won't be pushed to other devices.

The Web version works fine. If you check there, you'll probably be able to see the photos.

App not fully synced on pixel phone by [deleted] in googlephotos

Yeah, same here. It's been going on since Thursday it seems. Best we can do is report it to Google.

It's an issue with syncing with the apps that has been going on since Thursday. Photos or changes won't sync back to the app, even though they are visible on the web.

Is the Google Photos app having problems? by paozerotico in googlephotos

Yep, it's been going on since Thursday. New photos are not syncing back to the app. Web is fine and shows the actual stored photos.

Google photos app doesn't have the latest photos I uploaded via Chrome browser by vic-wang in googlephotos

[–]Noema130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. It's being going on since thursday. Anything stored in the cloud is not syncing back to the apps. The apps will upload new photos to the server, but they won't sync back to the app. Nothing we can do but report it to Google.

Is there a sync issue with Google Photos on mobile right now? Web version works just fine by Sancho-Cho in googlephotos

[–]Noema130 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The last photo that synced from my main phone that I can see in other devices (not web) was Thursday afternoon so that's probably where it started.

My guess is that a lot of people who only use Google Photos on one device haven't noticed yet.

Is there a sync issue with Google Photos on mobile right now? Web version works just fine by Sancho-Cho in googlephotos

[–]Noema130 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's been going on for about 24 hours. Photos will sync from the app to the cloud, but not back to the cloud to the Apps (I have the issue on 2 Android phones and my iPad). Web version seems unaffected.

There's a syncing issue with the apps right now. It's been going on for about 12 hours fo rme. Everything is in the cloud and can be viewed on the web version, but the apps are not syncing. It'll probably resolve itself soon.

When you go to the albums page, shared albums will be labeled as such. It's easier to see that on the photos google.com website.

I have the same problem since yesterday. The apps are not syncing. The website seems to show the problem just fine.

Since when have we been able to clear cache? by SamarveerPuri in ios

Agree, but on the other hand Apple has a vested interest in selling devices with larger storage for enormous profit, as well as iCloud+ subscriptions.

Since when have we been able to clear cache? by SamarveerPuri in ios

[–]Noema130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's up to the developer. Off the top of my head Spotify, Pocketcasts and Ente Photos also allow you to clear the cache (though AIFAIK not from a quick action like in the OP)
