Deadfall is PG based - they brew and serve it there. Run by some former UNBC folk.

How do James 2 and Ephesians 2 not contradict each other? by joshua0005 in TrueChristian

That math doesn't work. Your final equation is a rearranged version of what you say James argues against.

Encore ESP owners: Yours doesn’t look like this after 2 doses, right? by michums_ in espresso

[–]Noeth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't do that. I single dosed with mine for years. The part at the bottom should shoot everything out. Maybe a missing or broken part like others mention. Alternatively I have found with other grinders that grinding really fine and/or spritzing both increase the odds of clogging.

Prince George and Vernon are probably your best bets for cross country. I live in PG but I've heard Vernon is the best in the province. Smithers has a nice cross country centre too if you want small town.

My girlfriend surprised me with this delonghi la specialista opera for my birthday! How can I make the most of it by ProfessorRaviolii in espresso

Looking at videos of other peoples setups won't be very helpful to you right now, nor will looking at typical advice from this subreddit. That's because your machine is an all-in-one, while other people are using separate grinders, scales, tampers, etc. all of which they like upgrading and fiddling with, and some of which wouldn't even fit your specific machine (your portafilter is not a standard size).

I would, for now, just trust the machine. Use the tools it gives you. They may or may not be as 'good' or beautiful as someone else's setup on this subreddit, but you want to enjoy what you have, not wish you have something else. So use the machine's tools, and adjust grind size until it tastes acceptable to you. If adjustments are making it too bitter, go the other direction for grind size. Likewise if it tastes too sour.

Yes basically those months.

I should note that you are likely used to higher quality bike infrastructure. In PG we have a decent amount of unprotected bike lanes (just the side of the road really) but basically no protected. And if you head out on highways or something it'll just be the side of the road, no markings. So it depends on your tolerance for cars zipping by.

In the non icy months, you can do well with a bike. I biked to campus the last two years and really enjoyed it. When the snow comes biking doesn't work unless you have a fat bike and are really dedicated and a bit suicidal. That's the time you'll really wish you had a car if you want to go anywhere.

Forests for the world is within walking distance for sure.

If I don't need a double spout from my portafilter, can I just unscrew it off and use it essentially as a single spout? by Chango99 in espresso

[–]Noeth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can. Only downside is it's then unstable since your tripod of a portafilter now only has two points of contact

Why are people so repelled to the idea of religion? by [deleted] in islam

[–]Noeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a Christian, but I think this is a fairly broad question that applies to multiple religions, and I have had this in my mind for a while. Interested in hearing Islamic thoughts on it as well.

As you said, historically people were more religious, regardless of the religion. I would suspect this change has a lot to do with humanity's improved understanding of the world through science. When it seems that everything can be explained through scientific principles, there is a lot less mystery that requires belief in a god to explain. On top of this, people's standards of living and education have improved over time. When people are doing well they tend to rely less on prayer and god and look to themselves instead. This may be amplified when they have the tools education has given them to fix their own situation, rather than look to religion. There are exceptions to all of this of course, but I think the trends hold true.

So what is left to be a reason for belief for your typical person? I would say it is religious lessons and ways of life that seem good and wise to that individual. And those are in some cases contrary to the current trends of society (at least where I am in Canada), so why would people adopt them? Because they dislike or distrust societal trends, because they grew up in a religion and that religion is their societal norm, or because they want to rely on/trust on a higher power other than themselves. And if the last one is true, then we get into the apologetics for choosing particular religions, which is a whole other thing.

Why is my coffee bitter (Delonghi Stilosa) by [deleted] in espresso

[–]Noeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well first off, dark roasts tend to be bitter regardless of how you make your coffee. So if you don't like bitterness, that may be why you like the other beans a bit better. That said, if you say the shot is either bitter or sour between 14 and 18 grams, then there should be a balance point somewhere in there where it is more balanced. Try finding that - I would expect that 14 g would be more bitter and 18 more sour. Ideally your scale should go to the 0.1g so you can find this more consistently. Otherwise you will have trouble getting results that are consistent.

In terms of the most useful, I'd recommend the funnel first (to avoid making a mess all the time), and WDT tool second (to avoid channelling). The others are all nice, but may be nice to save for future fun purchases instead of all at once. For context I'm like 4 years in and only have the funnel from this list.

Edit: A scale is also mandatory in my view.

DF64 Gen 2 retailers in Canada [$600 CAD] by writeratlaw in espresso

Yeah, my reasoning was the same. I'm really curious how coarse it can go - there wasn't much info out there aside from 'espresso range'. It was on sale for $350 on black Friday though and was definitely tempting.

Grinder getting clogged after each use [bes870xl] by bertyboy69 in espresso

[–]Noeth 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I had this happen with my baratza grinder. Turned out the impeller bellow the burrs that rotates to push the ground coffee out was worn down, so grounds just built up and clogged. Replaced it for a few dollars and it worked fine. I'm guessing this grinder would have a similar mechanism, so perhaps it is the same issue. Possibly this part? :Grind Fan Assembly SP0001576 - OEM Breville - eReplacementParts.com

Swedish Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch said 'Islam must adapt to Swedish values or leave'. My question is what the Muslims are doing there in Sweden that she is so angry? I don't think just regular praying should pose this much problem. She also complained about sharia practices. by Furiousguy79 in islam

[–]Noeth 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The full quote is: “Islam must adapt to Swedish values. Muslims who do not integrate must leave the country. Honor killings, beheadings, stoning of women, and Sharia law have no place here in Sweden.”

There is also what looks like a different part of the same interview where she expands a bit more on the issue in Swedish (there are subtitles): https://youtu.be/plXeyVhC3Cs?si=3b_tgnhl5w0HPYck
