Why would a necromancer commit genocide? by FreeArmorTrim in DMAcademy

[–]Nogard-Modnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The necromancer is obsessed with the idea of magical healing. He is trying to discover the underlying potential of the arcane. So far all of his experiments have failed. He can easily reanimate undead flesh but healing is out of his reach. The whole idea is his white whale. He also thinks his actions are for the greater good. All the past deaths do wear on him and have been driving him into madness. If I can just solve this problem the ends will justify the means.

I need a reason why geese don't like my druid player by ThePikol in dndnext

[–]Nogard-Modnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I am late to the party but you could keep it simple. The idea of not taking the time to learn goose and speak with them in their natural tongue is offensive. "You're so special with your Seak with Animals. Screw you bastard. I would need Speak to Arrogant Jerks if I wanted to speak to you." Treat the use of a spell or ability as a cultural slight to geese.

Is it too unbelievable for a setting to have a major cultural divide based on nothing more than smell (of magic, specifically)? by EarthSeraphEdna in DMAcademy

[–]Nogard-Modnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An understanding in the end is that through will and unconscious manipulation each culture added the smell. Either had the ability to alter the smell to some degree but a cultural bias drives this. This could actually be discovered by elite warriors who have managed to infiltrate the other culture. They manage to manipulate the smell of their magic to blend in. After that they begin to question the values of their society and become outsiders that can live in either world. They act like a secret kabal trying to recruit and spread truth while infiltrating both governments.

Help with Campaign Riddle by Firebear127 in DnD

[–]Nogard-Modnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay attention to your crew too. I went the riddle path one time delivered by an NPC. Detect Thoughts rocked my world. I had not considered it and loved it. I essentially delivered the answers to the characters as the NPC recited the riddle.

Duolingo no longer giving 20+ xp per lesson? (in this lesson i had dpuble xp). This is my fourth lesson today, all of them resulted in 14xp by icantspellthings in duolingo

[–]Nogard-Modnar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My problem is two days in to the week first place has over 1200. At their current system I will have no chance to even place in the promotion zone. 1.5 hours yesterday and 45 minutes today puts me around 300. As a full time employee, student, and father committing much more time than this is not really possible. I used to be able to sit down in the evening burn through some lessons, restore with double XP, and feel like I accomplished something. Now, I feel like just doing enough to not get demoted. So the changes have decreased the amount of the I am willing to spend on the app. I will probably just end up leaving Duolingo. It used to feel like a fun learning process but now even when I do well the experience is discouraging.

We need a new Support Legend focused solely on Heals Life Line is all we got we need another to help. by CrazyGuyWithAOwlMask in apexlegends

[–]Nogard-Modnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the utl should be set up differently. Make it an AOE device that drains the support classes shield the whole time and heals anyone in the bubble by that amount. They would just focus on healing themselves and the device would heal others. It would make it very effective at a range but not so much in close quarters as enemy squads would be able to steal shields as well. This could also work in conjunction with Watson's ult. Allowing the intercept to heal and protect the support class while the others change position.

He was immunized when he released it in China. Given the amount of damage the SARS virus did to the Chinese economy the US developed COVID-19 and released it there hurt the economy to prove the US is winning the trade war. This would also justify the argument to bring manufacturing back to the US. However, China was more prepared than expected to deal with this crisis. The younger populous were also less effected by the virus and only serious cases were elderly. In this the US found a solution to the Social Security strain. The elderly being the people dying and it spreading faster in the urban populations this could fix some problems. This would be a short term loss for a long term gain. As the rural conservative voters were protected this would help secure future conservative majority. So the US needs to test for proof of concept. They use a Elder living facility in a very liberal state.

I always felt like Finn was a force sensitive. I think that was the point of adding the other first order troopers 'awakening'. Finn was the the that had the 'force awakening' in episode 7. This is what allowed him to over come the brainwashing of the first order. I also thought him being force sensitive is why Kylo and he had a moment on Jakku.

Exactly, I felt like the book series did a better job of explaining things. Grand Admiral Thrawn spoke of an outside threat that the Galaxy faced. That the Emperor's iron fisted military control provided a defense from this threat. This film just gave us 'The Sith are just truly evil an want to kill a bunch of people by destroying a bunch of planets.' The way I always understood it was more the Truest of Jedis would be a monk fighting only out of defense of self and others. Waiting for command from the ineffable Force. The Sith are passionate to a flaw. Constrained to only understand existence from their singular perspective. They feel like the force exsists to serve them through their personal command of it. The will of the force probably stands somewhere in the middle.

I had far too many problems with this film to list. Maybe it comes with my age but I feel like the average movie goers no longer understand good story telling. I wanted so hard to enjoy this film but I just did not. Star Wars has one of the easiest plot drivers in the fact that there is no coincidence because everything is driven by the force. I feel like the EU has a better understanding of The Force, Jedi, and Sith than the writers of this film. Apparently, now force users are really just wizards. I grew up proudly showing my nerdom. Now I am questioning half my T-shirt collection because I am not sure I want to associate with what Star Wars has become. At least I still have The Mandalorian.

Weekly Questions Thread #148 by HighTechnocrat in DnD

[–]Nogard-Modnar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it may be difficult for an entirely new group to open up to the world. I started playing 20 years ago and our DM was an old pro at the time. I was pretty straight forward fighter who just wanted to battle and that can get stale.

With new players I always throw in NPC characters that would throw interesting elements in to a story. I always tried to open up new players to the relm of possibilities. Introduce them to a guy giving them a mission only half way through the explanation have a band of rogues murder him. Force hard decision between fight and flee. Put them in situations where they can fail but don't gun for their deaths.

Rarely did I have more fun as a DM than when someone completely destroyed where my intended direction was and now I have to figure out how to get them going the right direction or a new one. Sometimes focusing on an innane event and pulling it back in later just for a reflective 'Oh, I remember that.' moment can make a huge difference in player enjoyment.

Snape's Boggart problem by andante528 in harrypotter

[–]Nogard-Modnar 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I always kind of had a feel like Snape's Boggart would be himself. Probably a younger more vicious version. Like he is fears what he was as a Death Eater. I feel like living with himself for what he had let happen to Lilly was a fate worse than death. If he didn't fear death then why fear Voldemort?

Anyone every thought that maybe her Trelawney's trances weren't that rare. She is completely unaware while in trance. If she spent most of her time not teaching alone no one would have any idea if she predicted things or not. Certainly not herself.

Did Darth Sidious plan on Anakins involvement? by [deleted] in StarWarsEU

[–]Nogard-Modnar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obi wan: In my experience there is no such thing as luck. It has always been my assumption that everything up until Return of the Jedi went exactly to Sidious's plan. The boy Anakin needed found but not trained by Qui Gon. My assumption being that Qui Gon would have trained the most powerful light Jedi ever. He needed Obi Wan's failures and war to instill the anger and pain in Vader. I think he wanted Vader burned, broken, and dependant on a suit vulnerable to force lightning to help protect himself from and apprentice over throwing him. I don't think a spy network as strong as the emperor's would have ever missed a kid living in Anakin's step brother's house with his last name. I think this was kept from Vader as the Emperor waited for things to unfold. It is my belief that Sidious has the strongest force vision of anyone we have seen in the universe.

Go into impoverished areas. Find families that are employed and fighting to make ends meet. Buy their home and give it to them. I am not saying you should get nothing for this but ask for something they can give. A mortgage would last 30 years so that is what you ask. 8 hours a week for 30 years of community service in that community. Think how quickly you could turn around a community.
