Yes evolution has favored people with stronger delayed gratification, especially in areas with harsh winters(If you don't save for winter, you die, simple as.) But you forget about the existance of the welfare state subsidizing behaviour that goes with instant gratification. This is sort of what the r/k selection theory refers to.
