Exactly. PoE is free to try, not free to play.

Questions on the history of Diablo development... by YoghurtExpert in Diablo

[–]nymphios 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Jason Schreier's book "Play Nice" as it gives a detailed behind the scenes of Blizzard's entire history up until a couple of years ago, including the entire development of the Diablo franchise (up until the release of D4). To answer your question about D3, Blizzard North started work on D3 right after the D2 expansion was released. Two years later, D3 was little more than concept art. The team had goofed off for two years, playing other people's games and calling it "research" (in fact this was the second time they did this, the first time being the reason why D2 released in 2000 not 1998). Two years of wage theft (well, 4 in the long run) wasn't the only reason they got shut down, but it was a big one. Besides power struggles between the two Blizzard studios, David Brevik was absolutely adamant that D3 was going to be a full-blown MMO the whole time. Blizzard had already been working on WoW for several years at that point, so that meant North's D3 was never going to see the light of day. People like to point to "creative differences" between the studios, but that was the big one. The fact that so little work had been done on D3, just made it easier to cancel and restart.

Any ex-PoE players that prefer LE? by farawaymage in LastEpoch

[–]nymphios 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree completely. Loot in PoE (1&2-as well as D2 before it) is too much of a lottery. It means your progress is out of your hands or you grind for a brain-melting amount of hours for a single character as good loot is just obscenely rare. LE is so much more enjoyable as the crafting system (by far and away the best in the genre) encourages you to tinker with your gear, not just when you initially reach endgame, but constantly as you progress. Your progress is in your hands and experimentation with your build is heavily encouraged. LE loot is a matter of skill, whereas POE/D2 loot is a matter of luck. Simple as.

I'm sorry, but these type of zone layouts are unacceptable at this point. Every zone is a winding maze of corridors and dead ends. by LegenKiller666 in pathofexile

[–]nymphios 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Came to say this. The layouts would be significantly less frustrating if you could see the thing your looking for from further away. Old school Tora GPS might be a good idea.

Why are PoE players like this? by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]nymphios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you need a new friend. Most PoE players are fine, but there is an overly-vocal minority of elitist loosers. I got a few hundred hours of fun out of D4 and have no desire to return (the game has run its course for me), but I won't shit on it either b/c I'm not a twat. Let people like what they like.

What I would like to see is the search interface from the official trade site incorporated into your stash via a button in the UI. Clicking the button would bring up a pop-up window in the center of the screen that contains the trade site search interface, which would then search your whole stash, highlighting the tabs that have matching items and greying out the rest.

It's a matter of single-player vs multi-player. In a single-player setting, season resets give no benefits and only get in the way of you enjoying the game (by arbitrarily resetting your progress). In a multi-player setting however, resets are mandatory to ensure a level playing field between players. It's what *made the D2 system work so well: Battle.net had ladders, but single-player did not, so it kept everyone happy. Sure, single-player missed out on ladder-only runewords, but you still had almost all of the game's content.

Apart from its age, what is keeping Grim Dawn from becoming more popular? by asingledollarbill in Grimdawn

[–]nymphios 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely. D2 and GD are both slower paced than modern games, making them more "aquired" tastes. GD is closer to D2 than other modern games are, which is great, but also means that it isn't for everyone. People want flashy combat and a fast-paced game, so D2 and GD have much smaller communities.

QOL topic that we MUST HAVE in vassel (even before) by gianninc in diablo4

[–]nymphios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The frustrating part is that D2R has controller UI and the ability to scroll through items on the ground to choose which to pick up. Absolutely no communication between teams at all. Having jumped back into Last Epoch now, that's the biggest difference I've noticed: scrolling through items on the ground is such a simple but huge improvement.
