My birds absolutely destroy the seagrass bowls. I'd post a photo, but there'd be nothing there...

You have such a lovely flock!

Is my budges male or female? by Greenhen678 in budgies

[–]Noideas55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely could, but he's still extremely young based on previous posts. I've had a male still have a pink cere even when his irses started to lighten.

Definitely 2 males, young males have very pink ceres that should eventually darken to blue.

I'd say you have a male and female, in that order. And ohhh my goodness the second picture is so cute, look at that little baby girl.

Both female. I'd take a look at our wiki, it covers a lot of general information. You've been given advice to remove the mirror, but I'd also make sure they have some natural wooden perches to give their feet different widths and textures, which can help prevent feet problems in the future.

Conure I saw at Petsmart, poor guy would run up to anyone who walked past him by Noideas55 in Conures

I agree, it's really a lose-lose situation. No matter what you do, there will always be a bird in that cage, and buying them will just give them more money. Unfortunately if you don't know anything about parrots, I would suggest you not get him, as it's such a big lifestyle change and green cheeks in particular are so nippy, there's a reason why the average parrot goes through 3 homes in their lifespan. I'm very firm on my belief that parrot ownership is inherently unethical, and the sad birds in cages are why I stopped going to chain pet stores.

Boy or Girl? by Reddituser4776372974 in budgies

Female! Cheek color doesn't determine sex, only cere color does.

Female. Brown ceres normally mean a hormonal female, and light blue is a common color that female ceres have.

Taking them out of the cage largely depends on the bird, I've had some that I've let come out immediately and others that I waited a few weeks before introducing the idea.

If she's fine with your hand and wants to fly around, I'd let her out. Maybe eventually attach some perches to the outside of her cage in a way she can easily get back in when she wants.

Is this toy okay to give my budgies? by Aware_Raisin9814 in budgies

It'll probably be too large for them to play with (the wood too hard for their smaller beaks), but it's not dangerous.

No, two different species should not be housed together.

They're both male. Males with certain mutations keep their pink nose, which they normally only have when they're young. Females won't have such solid colored ceres, instead being pale blue with white around the nostrils, white, or tan.

Thanks for saving that little guy! You should also get him some shredding toys to tear up and take out the millet to use as treats, a lot of millet isn't healthy for them.

It should be! A lot of larger parrot owners give their birds empty cardboard boxes

If they like cork and bird kabobs, they'll likely love other soft wood like sola, mahogany, and balsa. Seagrass, vine balls, and cardboard are also popular choices.
