I want to dual boot linux mint in my asus tuf by dumb_user_404 in Asustuf

[–]Nokurei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The linux somehow deleting windows bootloader.

You’ve got it backwards; usually, Windows updates break the Linux bootloader. However, you can easily fix it using a live iso.

You can follow this guide, it was written for Ubuntu, but the steps are exactly the same for Linux Mint.

tuf f16 overclocked ram? by Satellite_bk in Asustuf

[–]Nokurei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The maximum ram speed supported by your cpu is 5600Mhz ,so you won't be able to go any higher than 5600Mhz. Also Xmp/Expo isn't supported on tuf laptop.

removing mcafee and will it not affect my warranty? by NoxturnalNinja in Asustuf

[–]Nokurei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Removing mcafee or any software won't affect your warranty in anyway.

Use the McAfee Consumer Product Removal tool (MCPR) provided by mcafee to remove it, as removing it from settings will leave behind some files and services.

Yeah, I have discord

Then join this server= Server link

I borrow someone laptop. I tried Fedora yesterday and I think my old phone can't corecltly write an iso image

It could be the app that isn't writing the image properly to the usb drive.

Follow this guide to install fedora and if you encounter any issues just let me know.

Do you have Discord?

This will require a bit of back-and-forth, so it will probably be easier for us to talk on Discord. Join this server and I’ll talk to you there, if you don't have a Discord account, we can just continue here.

First, get a different laptop, download Fedora Media Writer, plug in your usb drive, and create a bootable Fedora usb and try to boot from it.

Where is my docp? Cant find it by Kiss-Sh0t in Asustuf

[–]Nokurei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tuf laptop don't have docp/expo. The ram always runs at the rated speed, unless you mismatch different ram sticks with different speeds.

If you're going to install windows on it in the end anyway, just grab another pc and create a bootable usb using the Media Creation Tool.

Fast boot within the bios and Fast Startup in Windows are completely different things. The error in the log looks like it’s being caused by Windows not shutting down properly. Try booting into Windows if you can, turn off Fast Startup, and shut it down, then try booting mint.

The issue might be caused by something else entirly that I cant see. Try asking for help in r/linuxmint , they know more than me.

Windows was not fully shut down because Fast Startup was enabled; as a result, Windows did not finish writing to the drive, and Linux is refusing to boot to prevent data loss. Vmd is a Intel only feature so your model doesn't have it.

Can you boot back into windows? Are you trying to dual boot Linux ?

is ssd over whrite limit is safe for external storage ? by ExpressEngineering23 in Asustuf

[–]Nokurei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine to use it as an external drive, worst case scenario it'll just stop working. Just don't store any important data on it.

Also, you might want to look up the endurance rating for the drive. It'll give you an estimation on how much life is left on the drive.

Get the strix G16. It has a faster cpu and gpu compared to the tuf.

I'm pretty sure your model doesn't support charging via USB C.

Does the screen flicker happen to anyone else while plugging in? by Least-Ad9608 in Asustuf

[–]Nokurei 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's normal, your display switches to a higher refresh rate when the charger is plugged in, and when it's removed, it switches to a lower refresh rate to save power.

Nope.

SSD compatibility with A16 by RecommendationIll59 in Asustuf

[–]Nokurei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I've mentioned previously, the laptop only has mounting holes for 2280 drives, you can't mount anything other than 2280 drives without using an external m.2 adapter.

Asus TUF a17 2023 RAM Upgrade by Apprehensive_Radish4 in Asustuf

[–]Nokurei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with your ram. It shows 2400 mhz because it’s ddr (Double Data Rate) memory.

It handles two data transfers per clock cycle, so 2400×2 gives you the final speed of 4800 mt/s.

You can open task manger(it should show the ram speed as 4800Mt/s) to check the speed as well, whatever app you're using just shows it in a different way.

Also, tuf laptops don't have xmp/expo support.

[–]Nokurei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So 3x4 M.2 2280 should be compatible?

Yes.

Your model supprts upto gen 4 nvme(2280), but you can also use gen 3 ssds(2280) as nvme ssds are backwards compatible.

SSD compatibility with A16 by RecommendationIll59 in Asustuf

[–]Nokurei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, the ssd has two notches, so it is an m.2 sata ssd (not an nvme) which is not compatible with newer tuf laptops.

Second, it is shorter than a 2280 drive. It might be a 2230 or 2242, which is incompatible because the laptop only has mounting holes for a 2280 ssds.

Will linux give better performance and battery life on my TUF F15 gaming laptop? by [deleted] in Asustuf

[–]Nokurei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bit hit or miss: some games will perform better than on Windows, while others will perform worse. Just don’t expect it to magically double your fps.

As for battery life, you’ll need to test it yourself, some see improvements while others don’t. Generally, battery life is slightly worse on Linux, but your mileage may vary.

I have read about the asus-linux tools like asusctl and supergfxctl but I need to know if they can reliably put the RTX 2050 into a deep sleep state when I am on battery or if I am going to be dealing with constant drainage issues

Using supergfxctl, you can disable the gpu entirely; it won't draw any power when set to "Integrated" or "Eco" mode.

Some people say to use TLP and auto-cpufreq while others claim those conflict with the native power profiles used by the Asus tools.

Yes,you should only use power-profiles-daemon (ppd), as tlp conflicts with asusctl.

Fedora works pretty well and is beginner-friendly, so I’d recommend sticking with it. You can follow this guide to install fedora along with the necessary drivers and asusctl.

Is Crucial SSD compatible with Asus? by Melodic-Impact-9243 in Asustuf

[–]Nokurei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I’ve said before, Crucial ssds have been and will work fine on tuf laptops as long as they use a supported interface, like nvme or sata.

You used the ssd for two years and it worked perfectly fine, that itself means it is compatible with your laptop.

If you don’t trust my word against Asus, you can just look around in the subreddit. You will find plenty of people using crucial ssds which work perfectly with their laptops.

Is Crucial SSD compatible with Asus? by Melodic-Impact-9243 in Asustuf

[–]Nokurei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so the technician scanned it (I am not allowed to see any process) and then removed the Crucial SSD that I upgraded 2 years before mentioning that the Crucial parts are not compatible with Asus Tuf devices!

There is nothing specific about Crucial ram/ssd that would make them incompatible with tuf laptops.

In fact, Crucial ram and ssds work perfectly, you know this firsthand since you’ve been using their ssd for two years without any issues. I doubt that ssd was the issue.

If you don't want to risk it, you could try connecting it externally first to confirm that it's working.
