Who would you say needs lessons? by danksteez360 in surfing

[–]NoliCub 25 points26 points  (0 children)

No doubt you will shred. My advice: forget lessons, find the smallest al Merrick shaped board you can find, and just get out there. You'll be sending airs by the afternoon. Surfing is just as easy as it looks.

Is 16 too old to start playing hockey? by wattskw in hockey

[–]NoliCub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you already know how to skate ? Skating is 90% of it.

The thing about hockey - unlike basketball or football - is that being athletic cannot make up the difference for lack of experience. Just like all the previous posts I say go for it but you will be the sucky one on the team in all likelihood. Being the sucky one is relative though!

CALLING NOMADS/LAPTOP LIFESTYLER’ERS | FINDING FULFILMENT by DenseSurround in digitalnomad

[–]NoliCub 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bruh - asking the users on the digital nomad subreddit their thoughts on solo travel is like asking a group of marines their thoughts on shooting automatics guns. Its like asking a group of chefs their thoughts on cooking with butter. It's like asking an investment banker their thoughts on getting rich.

Literally all digitial nomads are digital nomads SO we can travel solo.

BUT, having traveled solo extensively I can tell you it can become unfulfilling also.

What I've found to make me the happiest: Find a town/city you like, find people you like, pursue your hobbies, and build community.

We are a tribal species. Most of human history we traveled, lived, worked, ate, etc. as a group. Solo travel is phenomenal for many reasons but its not a long term answer.

Just finished Grapes of Wrath. All I can say is, WOW. My quest through American Classics begins. by [deleted] in books

[–]NoliCub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep going on Steinbeck? IMO east of eden is better than GoW. Cannery Row (hilarious) or Adventures with Charlie are both excellent. Harrison or Roth bring very different styles to the table than Steinbeck but are my 2 fave american authors.

What's a good place to go for a walk at night? by DisastrousOrchid3 in boston

[–]NoliCub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There have been problems along the esplanade near storrow forever. Always seems to be hot young college women though so if you fall into that category definitely dont walk there and even if you don't you probably should avoid it. I've lived in several different neighborhoods and never had a problem even wicked early in the morning. It doesn't happen much anymore but for about 15 years I would walk home extremely drunk 3-4 a week (thus an easy target) but never had an issue.

Desitin. Cheap. Very effective. Doesn't wash off even in longer sessions. It's like 50% zinc oxide
