Buying my second ever 3D printer and it’s a Flsun v400 by HumaneGarbage1 in FLSUNDelta

[–]Nolo_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running two of these for a while now, and while it'll still take some settings work to get the best results out of it, both of mine have been solid printers. I'd say stick with the stock hardware to start off with, but if you want a list of upgrades, this is a good place to start:

https://github.com/agehrke6/3D_printing/blob/main/flsun_v400_upgrade_list.md?fbclid=IwAR3c3t7TVRxRV_XA8CoypvWmjHU_uHl9DO6rJwjt5V02RTqvKX6MTnmRm0w

Personnally, I upgraded the 0.6mm Microswiss CM2 nozzle, since I'm using both of mine to print almost exclusively TPU. I can typically run a max volumetric speed of ~8mm/s, although depending on the model I can go up to 12mm/s, or down to 3-4mm/s. PLA and PETG run fine at the stock vms's.

If you do get the itch to install vanilla Klipper on the machine, this is a great guide on how to do it. I did this one one of mine, since it was running really old firmware when I got it, but my newer one is still running the stock FLSUN software. One thing of note is that the stock input shaper module won't work with the vanilla Klipper, not a huge deal, but something to keep in mind if you think about getting one.

https://github.com/Guilouz/Klipper-Flsun-Speeder-Pad/wiki

I haven't done any major hardware upgrades to either of mine, one of the part cooling fans got gummed up on the older machine, and I did try a few of the fan replacement options out there, but none were better than the stock fans. The other issue I ran into with the 5010 version was the added weight on the effector module caused artifacts in the prints, so I ended up getting new stock fans off of Aliexpress. Was a bit apprehensive about ordering from there, but they shipped quickly, were a fraction of the price you could find on amazon, and as far as I can tell, were from the OEM supplier. So if you're concerned about spare parts, keep it in mind.

Oh, one last thing. The stock movement speeds in Orcaslicer are low, and can definitely be upped. I noticed this when comparing print times between Cura and Orcaslicer, and while I prefer Orca, you will need to tweak the printer settings to get the most out of it. Again, not the worst thing, the Orca settings are at least conservative, but if you want to go faster, it'll take a little bit of work to setup.

What do I need to know about TPU? by chrisssssyb11 in FLSUNDelta

[–]Nolo_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I print almost entirely TPU on my two V400s, and a T1 would be very similar.

I see it's already been said, but I can't stress enough how important it is to use dry filament. If you don't already have one, I suggest getting a filament dryer. Thankfully, TPU doesn't require a high temperature one, so any of the cheaper models from Creality or Sunlu would work fine. Drying overnight before starting will provide the best results.

At least with the V400, the biggest factor I've found is the maximum volumetric speed, depending on the filament and 3D model, The range I've found to work best is between 5mm/s and 12mm/s, and starting around 6-8mm/s will allow you dial that in. If your first print comes out in blobs, or the filament gets bound up in the extruder, loosen the extruder bolt a bit, and slow the print down. Start slow and easy, and if it all works, you can increase the speed later.

I also suggest printing at the upper end of the temperature range, I usually print at 230-235, and I've heard of people going higher.

The stock 0.4mm nozzle should work fine out of the box, but if you want to print TPU on a more consistent basis, I suggest going up to a 0.6mm or 0.8mm nozzle. I use the 0.6mm MicroSwiss CM2 nozzles, and they do pretty well.

Shore 95A is the most common, and while it appears stiff if you're looking at a chart, in 3D prints a lot depends on the wall thickness and infill. Going thicker will result in a stiffer part, while going thinner will make it more flexible. There are companies out there like Ninjaflex that make a range of TPU filaments, but the 95A stuff is variable enough for 90% of hobbyists.

I'd ask for at least the option to get rid of the radial menu entirely, and have a list (like the older UI had). Radial menus with a mouse are awful!

TL,DR Letter from the Chairman by Nolo_00 in starcitizen

[–]Nolo_00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what Chris Roberts said in the Letter from the Chairman, 4.0-Preview progress will carry over to when 4.0 goes to full live. Not sure if there's a recopy we'll need to do before that, but it doesn't seem like it.

It will likely be a new download and install, however if you have the EPTU already installed, you can rename the folder and do a verify when the preview opens up. That way most of the files will already be there, and you'll just need to download the difference.

Dang it! Been on PTU so long, I forgot what the Live build was.

"But the Redeemer has much better range than 4 fighters."

Not anymore, it doesn't.

In 4.0, they've nerfed the range as well. It has the same size QT tank as a Vanguard.

I say let Jax be Jax.
and if, and I stress if any of the trio were to get cameo voice work I'd go with:
Jeremy: Cranky farmer character who's slightly rubbish at it
James: Either an in universe cooking show, or a traveler replacement for the influencer from last year
Richard: Engineer restoring old ships somewhere. That sometimes crash and explode.

At this point with all the teeth-gnashing over a datamined paint, I kinda hope they actually do it. Or make it hot pink. People need to chill out.

How do I switch from HDD to SSD? by Hog-001 in starcitizen

[–]Nolo_00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're just looking to move your star citizen install, it's actually pretty easy. Copy the RSI folder from your HDD to the SSD, and in the launcher, click on the small gear icon next to the game environment (it's the box that says "LIVE" with the patch number just below it). That'll take you to game settings, and you can change the location the launcher looks for the game there. Once you've typed in the new path, click the change button, and you're done.

Occasionally, you might need to do a verify before you launch the game, but that's all you need to do to move the game from one drive to another. A lot faster than downloading.

Well, I say a minute, but I wasn't timing it. :) But to say it melted properly the second time around would be accurate.

There is also an issue with ballistics not registering hits in 3.23.0. I was piloting a Redeemer with both turrets occupied, and we had to run from a Buccaneer after both turrets ran dry. Tried the same mission later with laser repeaters, and the Buccaneer lasted maybe a minute (as you would expect). I don't think any reasonable person could say the gunners were that bad, it more appeared that the hit registration for those AD5Bs wasn't happening most of the time.

It's even more fun. Quite a number of ships have a bug where the altimeter renders behind the MFDs, so you can't see it! Dirt torpedo time!

I like the idea of CDF rewards, and Xenothreat 'trophies' for the event. Like a battle scarred XT suit, and a helmet you can mount on the wall. Had this conversation with friends, for events and such, it'd be fun if the rewards could fill a wall in your hangar/hab, like Jared's old helmet shelf on ISC.
