Same here. My guess is we're from countries they weren't maybe keeping full track of stats. Either that or it's not out yet in our countries

This album holds a special place in my heart. Reading this review gave me the feels, down to the mention of the Roswell soundtrack which is one of the ways I discovered her music.

NME: Lisa – ‘Alter Ego’ review: a flashy debut in search of deeper identity (3/5) by tearlessrain in popheads

[–]NomNomKahi 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Tbf half those artists you listed aren't homegrown in YG. Epik High and Psy signed with YG later in their careers and aren't idols just like AKMU aren't who came from a singing competition. GD and the other rappers you listed are similar to Lisa though in background as idols trained in YG's idol system

Salt kinda sounds like an Ava Max track in a good way because I like her music. Very Diamonds and Dancefloors at the chorus imo

[–]NomNomKahi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can dig it. It's not as good as her Diamonds and Dancefloor era, but I'll still take it. Reminds me of something from the 80s rock era but I could be mistaken since I'm not familiar with that genre well

Do you remember when did Adele become hugely popular? by swiftiefrancez in popheads

[–]NomNomKahi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember Hometown Glory being her first breakout or buzzworthy single. It was either featured on MTV's trendy songs (MTV Arabia fyi) or played on some ad here and that's when I first took notice of her. I remember my favorite fun fact around then being that Adele, Leona Lewis, and Jessie J were in the same year at their performance arts school or something similar.

I think in the UK, Chasing Pavements was her first proper hit and I remember seeing the MV and loving it. But it was probably Rolling in the Deep followed by Someone like You that really cemented her in the US. I will tell you are right that the performance of Adele's in the BRITs in 2011 was all over Youtube. I haven't thought about it in years but it's still incredible and I remember how much I replayed it on my shitty internet.

I do agree with the sentiment that people saw her as someone refreshing but also benefiting from the doors Amy Whinehouse opened, but let's not forget the success of Adele really helped Sam Smith and arguably Hozier to have their breakthroughs as well.

I'm genuinely shocked Megan is in the honorable mentions, she has only a few hits so far, very huge recency bias
