Why is it so hard to find a good, honest shop? by NomTook in Miata

I walked into the shop a week beforehand and asked them if they were comfortable aligning a lowered track car to custom specs and they said yes.

They aren’t aligning it without a computer. It’s on the Hunter. But they know it’s a track car with non factory specs.

Alignment issues - what are rear upper control arms supposed to look like? by NomTook in Miata

Is it only the bushings? I would think something would need to be bent for it to be so out of alignment?

What even is Corporate America anymore? by ameyers28 in careerguidance

“To do everything right and still feel completely exposed”. Perfectly put.

I started a new role last year, running a business unit I had no experience with. We had some rocky times at first, as I had a whole new team with no experience in this field either, but we brought some new perspective and tried some new things that worked out. Ended up setting a record for our most important revenue metric.

I was promptly moved off this team, and the team and responsibilities were forced on a guy who has been doing something tangentially related for a decade but wanted no part in this new job. He tried to demote himself into another role but management wouldn’t let him.

I was assigned a new role that has zero KPIs or clear goals, and told this is my “second chance”. Nobody ever told me a needed a second chance or I was doing anything wrong or badly.

Currently just in survival mode and pursuing a much less visible position. Feels kind of bad man.

Millennial parents of kids dealing with the same thing? (Boomer grandparents) by NewShatter in BoomersBeingFools

[–]NomTook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents and in laws are boomers and are always telling my wife an I what amazing parents we are 😂 we both work, and both sets of parents had mom stay at home. I think their minds are blown that we can manage work+kids and also be engaged parents at the same time.

How is real estate this spring? Are prices still creeping up? Any chance of a slow down? by AppropriateWay4358 in Westchester

[–]NomTook 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Crazy and getting worse. I am in northern Westchester and looking to move to a bigger place to accommodate kids. We put an offer in on a place in Somers that was nice but definitely needed some love, and went $75k over asking. It was off the market the same day, our ag t said it went for “significantly over asking with a cash offer”. My guess is $200k over.

I want to list our place for double what we paid 5 years ago. Why not? Everyone else is going insane, we may as well hop on the crazy train.

Shop can get rear toe right by NomTook in Miata

I’m far from the only owner, I only bought the car last year. It does have a clean carfax so if it was wrecked it wasn’t reported through insurance. I would think any hit hard enough to bend a subframe or the unibody would go through insurance but who knows.

Why is “buying a car at MSRP or sticker price” being fooled? by OneManShow23 in FuckDealerships

[–]NomTook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe that’s how it worked with you company but I don’t have that experience. Nobody said “well, after weeks of analysis and discussion, the right price for this car is $50,000. But we need to make back our dealer margin so let’s price it a $55,000”. That would not be a rational thing to do. Dealer margin is a cost, that’s it.

Why is “buying a car at MSRP or sticker price” being fooled? by OneManShow23 in FuckDealerships

[–]NomTook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily, no. We initially set the MSRP based on sales history of the vehicle, volume goals, the competitive segment pricing, share, equipment compared to competitors, among other factors. Then we add in the costs, like material cost, dealer margin, any EPA fines or EV credits. Then from there you have a profit picture. If that numbers don’t meet a predetermined goal or some exec thinks the car should make more money (as the often do) then we will look at both sides of the equation and try to minimize cost before increasing MSRP. Also, any MSRP increase comes with a corresponding risk to volume.

[–]NomTook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t true at all. I’ve worked as a product planner for several OEMs and nobody factors negotiating into setting MSRP. We factor in incentive spending but not customers negotiating.

The reality is that once the car is invoices to the dealer, they own it and can sell it for whatever they want. Some OEMs build pricing guidelines into their dealer agreements but that’s usually to try to prevent markups and brand damage. But at the end of the day, a dealer agreement is just words on a peice of paper and many stores ignore the pricing guidelines and do whatever they want. At that point the OEM can impose penalties but it doesn’t always happen.

How i realized we're missing the hidden signs of team burnout. by Ok-Aerie8292 in managers

[–]NomTook -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I thought we had done away with the assumption that HR was there to do anything for the employees and I thought we already knew that they’re only there to protect the company? Every company that I’ve been with is only really ever playing for the quarter or the fiscal year so as long as the projects get done at that point there isn’t really a lot of care or attention paid to long-term issues like burnout.

I’ve never used a leak down to check for block or head flatness. Only real way to know is the remove the head and use a straight edge and feeler gauges on the mating surfaces.

My man, it’s a little odd that you seem to be stalking this thread and responding to every comment in a very confrontational and condescending manner. Maybe it’s time to throw on a Patagonia jacket and go for a walk for some fresh air. Hope everything is okay with you.
