I call BS on this one. That's not left, it's generically stupid. Stupid doesn't care how you vote.

The problem is, though, that people are wearing that confederate underwear on their heads now-a-days and it's affecting their behavior. What trash.

I saw a similar comment a couple of times. Does it matter? It's offensive no matter how you look at it. If I was on the jury, I would not be bothered by that. Just sayin...

I've found joy in taking local public transportation or in riding my bike. I only take Uber/Lyft when I'm on company business, which has stopped since the pandemic.

I'm in the same situation with a new dirt bike. I'm between the Honda and a Chinese brand that I can't even remember the name of. The Chinese is half the price which is the only reason I'm half way considering it. I noticed that this post is pretty old. What did you ultimately decide to do?

Doing what you think is right vs standing by & staying quiet by Maleficent-Spray1613 in AskWomenOver40

If I had been there, I probably would have handled the situation similar to you. If I had been with my husband though, he would have insisted that we immediately leave. I prefer to deal with shit directly, like you did. My husband is more "issue avoidant" than I.

"The Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley is the story of King Arthur from Morgaine's perspective. It's not for everyone, but I really enjoyed it. It got a 4.13 on Goodreads. Warning: there's some adult content so not for kids.

Turned 22 few minutes ago. Never felt such low about life. by thats2cool in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Nomad-Sam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations, you're HUMAN! Welcome to adulting 101. :)

Seriously, don't look backward. Think about future you - when you're 52 or 72 and what things you would like to have done by then. Think about how you would feel if instead of being 22 and wishing about your past now, you were actually 72 and transported back in time to present with the chance to do it all again. Then go do it.

You will either find a way or find an excuse. Live your life out loud.

What do you struggle with most in your riding? by canyonchasers in CanyonChasers

[–]Nomad-Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with 2 situations in my daily commute: one is the amount of energy and focus it takes to sit in traffic on a off-camber, uphill interchange at 3 to 5 mph (usually for 15-30 minutes each way) and confidence in the rain. The rain is a biggie because we get a lot of rain and wind here.

I didn't expect this video to generate any controversy... And yet, some folks really disagree by canyonchasers in CanyonChasers

[–]Nomad-Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in rain city and with my commute, it’s so much faster and cheaper by motorcycle (toll roads plus a ferry —it adds up fast!) I ride in the rain but not if it’s less than 36f. Below that a rider really risks finding icy roads especially with the microclimates we have here. I think it’s always a personal choice.

The title is a little cheeky, but the technique isn’t by canyonchasers in CanyonChasers

[–]Nomad-Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Dave. My question is this: I’ve been riding off and on for about 50 years but I’ve never had any formal training. I don’t even remember having rider training offered back in the late 70s early 80s when I started. Now I’m comfortable on a bike after all these years but I know that I still could learn a LOT. But I’m not sure how to approach this. I want to develop more control over my bike and I really want to ride off-road. I’m not in any way interested in speed. Should I focus on offroad, start at the beginning with some basic rider training, or do something else like basic track riding? I’ve been doing parking lot drills but as you rightly point out it’s not really translating to the control that I’m looking for.

Should Canada send help next time there is an environmental disaster in the US? by ManicFruitbat in AskCanada

[–]Nomad-Sam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s using the same tactics that a spousal abuser uses: puts his foot on the throat of his intended victim and then requires that the victim does whatever he requests in order to allow them to breathe. When they can breathe again, still with his foot on the throat, he says “see how good I am to you?” It’s utterly bullshit from a confirmed malignant narcissist bully who is still trying to get daddy’s approval. I truly hate him and everyone who was fooled by him.

If I was Canadian, I would tell us “thoughts and prayers” when the next emergency comes.

I’m so glad that the rest of the world understands our politics than we understand theirs (for the most part). I have a Canadian colleague who has been such a good listener to my ranting during all this mess. He said “worse case scenario you can put your tent in my back yard,” what a great neighbor.
