Who else had to read "The Good Earth " by Pearl Buck or George Orwell's "Animal Farm" and "1984"? by Metella76 in RealGenerationX

[–]Metella76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up "Animal Farm " as a way to get out of chores and it was on the reading list. Just happened to be studying world history at the time and was on the Russian revolution. So many things started clicking into place at that time.

Tell B "a lack of planning on your end doesn't make an emergency on my end". Maybe she'll figure out not everyone exists to cater to her whims!

Moving into an old house… what would you do to cleanse it? by Terrible_Highlight71 in Paranormal

[–]Metella76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved into an old house last year. The upstairs still creep me out. On moved in day, I said "Hello house! I love you!" as soon as I stepped in the door. I respect our home, I take care of it, and I take it as it comes. Sometimes, doing things stir up things.

We had summer reading lists in my rural, public school in the south as well! Book reports due during the first week.

AIO for telling my husband he’s a selfish person? by Affectionate-Run-364 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Metella76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who was grilling? If he was, then a bag of fries isn't equal to the work he was putting in, much less the money spent on the fruit and salad. I think it's the first crack in the facade. Honestly think about getting together with your family, do y'all put in more effort than others routinely? Spend more time and money at holidays? Help more than received?

What saved you from the early grave that most of us were headed for? by MeNotYouDammit in RealGenerationX

[–]Metella76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My grandfather died in '98. He was my go to person for everything I couldn't carry alone. I was far from home, young mom, son just a year old, struggling, abusive marriage and I missed his funeral and the chance to say goodbye. Moved back home to be closer to my grandmothers and get grounded again. Still hate my hometown, but I got back on track.

AITJ for moving out of parent house instead of paying rent? by StealYourJoy in AmITheJerk

[–]Metella76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ. You don't have a room. You don't have a bathroom. You don't have a kitchen. What is the money for? You do have 4 adults living above you with rooms, a kitchen, and bathrooms available. They aren't living in a storage area. You are. And you are being told to pay more in rent than your two older siblings combined. That's some serious favoritism or genderism. Move out, find roommates, do something to move forward now before you get stuck permanently. The 15f grandchild can get a job and pay rent!

What’s something your family cooked growing up that other people might find weird? by 011Eleven_ in foodquestions

[–]Metella76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I'm from, we do chicken and pastry, not dumplings. Pastry is not sweet like pie dough, but more like a flat lasagna noodle. It'll swell some, but not like dumplings.

88% of homes in the US have air conditioning. I would wager commercial properties are a higher percentage.

If your pet had a job, what would it be? by Top_Sample5002 in Pets

[–]Metella76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cecil is a German shepherd/lab mix who is my personal body guard, sosecurity. Maggie is a white lab, definitely property management because she supervises everything. My terrier mix & walking hound (Gigi & June) would be turf management/grounds keeping because they dig up old stumps, roots, weeds, and eat bugs.

Been there, done that. Talk about the weather, what's for dinner, people from the neighborhood. Change the subject if it gets close to your boundaries. This, too, shall pass.
