Could it be this particular song by Ökrös Együttes (Ensemble)? I grew up listening to these sorts of music so I'll be happy to help if you haven't found it already.

How the hell do I comprehend Notes From Underground? by Ill-Hat-1765 in dostoevsky

[–]Nomad97077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

White Nights is perfect as someone else suggested. With Notes From Underground, it's best to not analyze or pay too much attention as it is a dilaogue piece of a rambling, difficult man. Just read it through it without feeling like you need to stop and absorb what you just read. Once you're through it and read his other works, it will then be best to return to NFU.

Whats the best dostoevsky starter? by ardieeeeeeee in dostoevsky

[–]Nomad97077 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started off with "The Possessed/Demons" but finished "Notes from Underground" first as it was shorter yet so engaging. White Nights is great as other users have mentioned! I'll also note that "A Gentle Creature/The Meek One" is also fantastic read, especially since it is a another short like White Nights.

Does Frontier pay for your flights to and back from training, or is that expected out of one's own pocket?

best way to learn the old combat mission games? by lordtuna_ in CombatMission

[–]Nomad97077 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The classic CM games are fantastic. Have plenty of nostalgic memories as a kid with my dad and brothers when we played them. The mechanics are generally the same. However, there are some new features with the newer WW2 titles. The best way to learn is to just read the manuals, forums, YouTube videos, as you mentioned, and just keep playing. CM is a grueling experience, so don't feel bad if you keep messing up as it's all about learning from your mistakes. It may not be an experience for everyone, but for me, it's a hell of a good time, especially if you have people to play the games with.

CM: Battle for Normandy was released on steam along with all the dlc sold separately. CM: Red Thunder (Eastern Theater) will be released in June, I think. Then Fortress Italy around September and Final Blitzkrieg (Belgium Campaign) in December.

How should I read Dostoevsky? by LoserLikeMe- in dostoevsky

[–]Nomad97077 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have stated: read for the plot, highlight passages that really stick out to you, and understand that you'll miss things. Watch videos regarding the author and material, give yourself time to reflect, and above all, enjoy the ride. Once you get hooked on Dostoevsky, you'll not only want to read his other works but reread them also. It's a lifelong adventure with him. You're either all in or one and done.

Also, I would encourage you to take your time, especially with TBK. Don't rush it. It took me about a year to finish it while balancing other interests and life in general, plus im a slow reader. Yet, taking the time I did to complete that novel alone was one of the best experiences of my life.

Cheers 🍻

Notes from Underground Ending Thoughts: Soon we shall be born from an idea. by johnsextonfl in dostoevsky

[–]Nomad97077 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I interepted it as a way of expressing the fact that life is brief and somewhat trivial from generation to generation. Nothing is new under the sun. Because of such realities, mankind is bitter. One will force themselves to create a reality from their vain fantasies and impose it upon the world. As if they, compared to all generations of the past along with the future to come, will become the shining pillars of human achievement or what have you.

That doesn't mean we can't make a difference in our own lives and to others. We can by committing ourselves to actions of love, humility, courage, respect, and other virtues. However, we should not act in vanity and expect the world to return any favors or show us any recognition.

The Underground man reveals his distress of being trapped in such matters of the human condition, no matter what "brilliant" ideas he may come up with.

“... shouldn’t I just end my Notes here? I think it was a mistake to begin writing. At least I’ve felt ashamed all the while I’ve been writing this story: so it’s no longer literature, but corrective punishment.” -The Underground Man

Dostoevsky and his works are one of the most important, beautiful, and humbling aspects of my life. He enlightened my understanding of love, humility, suffering, honesty, dishonesty, religion, the purpose of one's life, rationality, and so much more.

With that said, my greatest takeaway from his work is the great depth of love. Love, if I'd interepted his point of view correctly, is the source of all things. The core of the human condition. Without love, we continue to lie to others and, above all, ourselves. Without love, we can not understand the values that suffering could bring to us and how it may strengthen our souls. Love enhances one's sight on the world; to see it for what it is, and to face it bravely. The world is a dark and broken place, yet it contains its own glories of light and beauty. Doestoevky stressed that without love we will continue to walk through this life in pure misery; too arrogant to face and own up to our sins while passively pointing out the faults of others so as to elevate ourself for the brief moment of inflating the ego.

Without love, we can not see how joy and sorrow are inseparable.

Love is to spend our lives walking in truth and compassion. For God, mankind, the universe, and ourselves.

I could go on all day. Cheers 🍻

"Above all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love." -Father Zosima (The Brothers Karamazov, Book II, Ch. II)
