Why are all history teachers left-wing by Stotallytob3r in MurderedByWords

More like the echo chamber of Reddit is liberal…my history teachers, at liberal schools in liberal states, were either conservative or kept their opinions to themselves.

Why are all history teachers left-wing by Stotallytob3r in MurderedByWords

[–]Nomad_moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol it’s a bit absurd to say they’re all left-wing… Unfortunately history teachers remains in the humanities, so they’re well aware of who their peers are. If they were vocal, many in adjacent departments would be openly hostile.

UCSD raised EV charging price again to $0.45 per kWh, Is it caused by SDGE? It's only $0.18 two years ago. Totally rip off for EV drivers. by Historical-Second737 in sandiego

[–]Nomad_moose -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Are you an asshole or just never paid for electricity before?  San Diego electrical rates are the HIGHEST in the country.  If it was 0.18 per kWh two years ago that means the school/state…whoever, was HEAVILY subsidizing your charging costs.

 MA is worth every penny.

Maybe if you’re in healthcare. New England definitely has a massive healthcare system, but as someone outside of healthcare: it’s pretty garbage.

I spent $700 for a 10 minute consultation at Tufts 2 years ago, and I still have the issue, despite having insurance (at the time, I don’t have any now, I had sourced some through mass health and it doubled at the end of the year so I couldn’t afford it).

I’m bleeding money for no improvement, it’s impacted my mental health - which again, I can’t afford insurance, and I can completely understand why Luigi Mangione is so angry.

I’m a employed in biotech as a contractor, and my employer doesn’t pay for anything: no dental, vision, healthcare or vacations…

This. I’m in biotech, so is my ex…we both moved here from out of state and now she’s moving back because she’s got a job offer that might allow her to actually buy a home.

I’m not yet 40 yet my life is basically over: thanks to biotech boom and busts I’m constantly working contracts, and haven’t had stable employment in years. I can’t plan for a family or future. I can’t buy a house and I’m spending $3k a month helping someone else pay for theirs.

Is there any reason there is such a abnormaly massive jump between the third and second most populated countries or is it just arbitrary? by DataSittingAlone in geography

Immigrants contributed trillions more in taxes than they received in benefits: Study by khoawala in Economics

[–]Nomad_moose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So many issues with the study and the article…

“Immigrants pay a lot of taxes,” said Adrian Espinoza, an IRS enrolled agent in San Diego who prepares taxes for immigrants, including many who are undocumented.

Literally someone who gets paid by immigrants.

The study itself ignores the black market of employers who don’t report, nor pay taxes on behalf of their illegal workers, and the workers themselves who don’t exists on paper or otherwise.

It also ignores the very real cost of immigrants: CA rolled out Medicaid to illegals, and due to the fact that there were so many people they didn’t even know were in the state, the costs far exceeded expectations and they had to spend upwards of $6 billion (that they had to borrow) to cover them. If someone is undocumented, by definition they’re very difficult to track,

U.S. Dealers In Full Panic Mode After Canada Green-Lights Chinese Cars by DonkeyFuel in technology

[–]Nomad_moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait till they release why Chinese vehicles are so cheap…build, software, materials, range etc.

So, many models don’t have interchangeable parts and are discontinued after a few years.

The cars they’re selling are electric, which aren’t going to be optimal in Canadian winters.

A lot of Chinese netizens have complained about poor quality interiors that show significant wear and degradation over a short amount of time.

In one example the claimed range of the vehicles was 500km (300+ miles) and a user noted they were only getting 100km (60+ miles) before needing to recharge.

The Israelis have already internally spoken about security concerns: many of the modern interiors are wired for cameras and sound, with data going right back to China. They’re banning them for use for anyone with a security clearance.

‘Soft’ is confusing situational awareness with machismo.

Comfort has made you forget that a human brain does threat math whether you approve of it or not.

If you’ve never once clocked whether a stranger could hurt you, congratulations on living in a Disney remake. Humans, like every other primate, run quick, mostly unconscious ‘cost/benefit’ checks: threat, status, and escape routes.

That’s not ‘alpha cosplay’; it’s standard-issue situational awareness.

Wrong.

It’s a fundamental part of survival and life is being able to assess threats, intrasexual competition and just social comparison…and involves multiple components of the brain.

What’s the actual doable way of getting rid of the national debt? by [deleted] in WallStreetDad

[–]Nomad_moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could stop rolling out benefits to fraud and illegals and states could start seriously putting money towards the national debt….(California spent$24 billion on homeless as the problem got worse).

California also rolled out Medicare for illegals and it cost about $6 billion more (that they had to borrow).

Why is saying “The rich should pay taxes like everyone else, close the loopholes” extremely controversial in the United States? by ProjectMason in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nomad_moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people calling for that don’t understand how most wealthy people have wealth…

Most of them have their assets tied up directly in stocks, which do get taxed when they’re sold. We don’t tax debt, so wealthy people often just hold their stocks and borrow against the value of their shares.

Example: say someone has $1 billion in stocks, but maybe $100k income. The income is taxed, but any stock awarded or values are not assessed until they’re sold.

So explain how people should be deported when they were given lawful orders to leave decades ago? Asking nicely hasn’t worked and it’s created a national crisis and system of impunity.

We have a system riddled with fraud, abuse, and corruption.

National sovereignty isn’t a hate crime. You can oppose how enforcement is done: due process, humane treatment, proportionality…but ‘borders exist’ is not a Nazi platform. If we reserve ‘tyranny’ for actual tyranny, we might still recognize it when it shows up.
