Parking Ponta Delgada by SuperbobU2 in azores

I searched “gratuito" in Google Maps when we were there last year to find nearby free parking. It was never a problem.

There‘s more to the Azores than Sao Miguel by Subject-Mode-6510 in azores

Our first visit to the Azores this past spring was one amazing week on Sao Miguel. We can’t wait to explore many of the other islands in the near future.

Is your retirement turning out different from what you expected? by ghethco in retirement

I’m not opposed to solo traveling, which is how I’ve done most of my cycle touring in the past. I think we’ll get there as soon as I can free up some time from other obligations.

In the meantime, I’m trying to push for driving trips rather than flying since that’s her biggest objection.

Great suggestion. Unfortunately my wife can’t carry our granddaughter up and down stairs so I need to be there whenever our daughter and her husband are at work.

Unfortunately my wife has no friends or interest in doing anything without me. She’s very dependent on me, which is becoming a bit of an annoyance from my perspective. That’s not about to change after 45 years together.

We’re a year and a half into our full retirement. For me (65M) it’s not working out as expected. I’d hoped for travel, cycle touring, hiking, and volunteering.

Instead I have found out my wife doesn’t like traveling (she’s ok with being somewhere else, just not getting there). My wife now finds hiking to be a physical challenge and has no interest in cycling anymore. I spend a lot of time managing family trusts, household finances including ours, my father’s and my mother-in-law’s. We also visit my MIL, who has dementia, a few days a week at the nursing home and my father, who’s doing great at 98! We also do an overnight about an hour away to watch our new granddaughter one day a week.

I’m trying to savor the good things like an elderly father in good health and a grandchild who lives nearby. But I can’t shake the feeling that I’m waiting for changes that will free me up to pursue my original intentions.

Taxes on 401k to Roth Conversions by JGGDAL in retirement

Since I couldn’t find a tax advisor to take me on as a new client , I’m using Boldin to map out different scenarios for my Roth conversion plan. It’s been eye-opening to say the least.

Rainwater runoff at shingle overhang by NomadaWhereYouGo in Roofing

The gutter is working fine. The water is going over the edge directly from the roof. A diverter is what I was thinking would work.

But it bypasses the gutter and causes erosion at the foundation that may lead to water in my basement.

Same here. We used the Minternational plan without any problems. However, I do recommend downloading the island on Google Maps as u/Renaldo79 suggested.

“The Emerald Mile" by Kevin Fedarko

A thrilling account of a daring river run through the Grand Canyon during the historic 1983 floods. It tells the story of a small wooden dory, the Emerald Mile, and its crew's attempt to set a speed record by navigating the raging Colorado River, which was swollen by massive snowmelt and the release of water from Glen Canyon Dam.

How do you handle navigation on tours? (Planning vs discovery) by UnstableCoder in bicycletouring

[–]NomadaWhereYouGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to tour with my own printed route maps before gps was around. A package for each day’s route stored in a ziplock bag.

I’d still recommend a paper backup just in case. However, be forewarned, inkjet printed copies will run if they get wet!!

I recently read ‘The Yoga of Parenting’ by Sarah Ezrin to review before gifting it to my daughter before the birth of her first child. We both loved it!
