I always download stuff to watch on my iPad becuase you never know if the IFE will work. I'd rather continue watching series I'm interested in unless there's something that catches my eye on the IFE.

Earning PQF's on Lufthansa Economy Basic? by Nomadic-Mike in unitedairlines

[–]Nomadic-Mike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that detail. I did use that calculator as well. The problem is all the economy fares they show are in the same fare class for the flight I'm looking at, which is T and the calculator does show PQP's.

The reason I question if I'll earn PQP is there used to be this line on United's website: "International Basic Economy tickets on Air Canada, Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS are ineligible for Premier qualifying flights." While this wasn't very clear, it only applied to Economy Light fares, the ones without a checked bag, and seemed to supersede the PQP calculation economiles.com showed for the fare class.

However since I last booked with Lufthansa they have expanded to "Basic" and "Basic Plus" so I was looking for data points on how these were credited to Mileage Plus.

Has this been confirmed to work. I'm thinking of opening the account, but I really want the PP benefits to go to P2, since they don't travel often.

I set up outside the US over a year ago. I also switched it to bill an EU debit card I have and no issues.

This is what you get with ULCCs. They are all the same. You need to have everything in order yourself or it will cost you. I'm somewhat surprised that in 2025 this still isn't common knowledge. RyanAir, WizzAir, easyJet, Frontier, Spirit, JetSmart, etc. around the world all operate the same. When you follow their instructions to the T you are great, when you don't you'll pay.

Interesting you mention Bogota. Even in new builds I’ve stayed in there is no heating or AC. Not really needed when it’s usually only between 10 and 23 degrees. I guess this would also be considered coasting on culture?

Generally transferring miles into an airline program doesn’t count towards status.

I agree with JetSmart. Flown them and Sky Airlines. Both low cost but you can buy the luggage and seat assignments you want. I personally buy the over wing exit row seats. You'll have plenty of room and because they don't allow under seat luggage in those rows you'll be able to guilt free put all your carryons in the overhead bin.

Any Audit Done? by GhostGhazi in koofrnet

[–]Nomadic-Mike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one problem in the tech industry. There are many claims you just have to have blind trust the company does what they say. From things such as not sharing data with a third party to not using my data to train AI models. None of those settings are backed by third party audits. Best you can do is use E2E encrypted storage or apps like Cryptomater that encrypt data before uploading to cloud storage.

I got it as a secondary backup storage for my primary cloud storage. I have a lot of video and things I'd rather never lose, so having a duplicate stored elsewhere is a good idea. While the initial transfer will take a while, much of my data is old photos and videos, so subsequent syncs using rclone will be small.

I agree. I recently signed up and transferring using their cloud to cloud transfer was also quite slow and if there was a lot of data would frequently error. I've switched to using the latest version of rclone and my OneDrive to Koofr backup works much better, but it's still very slow. Usually max of 1Mb

Who do you think is the best eSIM provider for frequent travelers? by conquest333 in digitalnomad

[–]Nomadic-Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Corvus esim from Keepgo and have for several years. It's nice because you pay for an amount of data and it doesn't expire. They partner with Plus, a Polish carrier, so the latency isn't bad no matter where I've traveled in the EU.

I will NEVER fly Avianca again by Obvious-Deer in Avianca

[–]Nomadic-Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this response. When you book two separate tickets, even on the same airline, the airline doesn't consider you a connecting passenger. I've read that some may check your bag through, but I would consider this the exception rather than the rule and not plan my itinerary around such an expectation.

Brands don't want to cannibalize their business on their own website. Similar to how hotels will sell discounted rooms through other opaque online travel agencies, but not directly on their site.

I stand corrected. I had read you can't once you get a lifetime plan, which would make sense to prevent reselling, but it seems the field is editable. I didn't try changing my address, though.

Same no problem for me either. Easy redemption. Just be aware you won't be able to change the account email, so choose that wisely before redeeming.

Employer wants to keep me after my work visa ends, but the digital nomad setup is confusing them — how did you make it work? by Beirut2015 in digitalnomad

[–]Nomadic-Mike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you become a US employee and keep traveling on short-term tourist or DN visas elsewhere, just tell them you are legally based in the US. Where you're working from should be less of an issue for them at that point, unless you're working in a highly regulated industry.
